    Kidnap plot foiled, five held

2011/7/8 14:05:20 The Cyber Crime Police of the Central Crime Station, Hyderabad on Friday revealed that they have five persons, including a former partner of a software firm for planning to abduct the managing director of the firm for ransom of Rs two crore.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Detective Department) J Satyanarayana, the prime accused NVV Satyanarayana Murty alias (32) was arrested along with his accomplices Cherukuri Sridhar, Goda Prasad alias Prasad, Kuthdi Sudharshanalias Dharshan and Aluvala Jagadeeswara Reddy when there were about to put their kidnap plan into action.

The police seized 15 cell phones along with SIM cards and an SUV from the arrested accused.

Mr Satyanarayana said that the reason behind the kidnap attempt was the grouse felt by Murthy that he had lost out when he merged his company with the one of Vijay N Rao.

Elaborating further, the police official said that the accused Murty completed his M Tech and established an own company styled as Quatriple Technologies at Kamalpuri Colony with 45 to 50 employees with himself as MD.

Murty met Vijay N Rao and after consultation with each other, he merged his company in the latter’s company styled as Magnetic Infotech Pvt Ltd in October 2007.

Murty was appointed as GM with Rs 25,000 as his monthly salary along with the other earnings as working partner.

After the merger, Vijay Rao paid Murthy Rs 5 lakh as profit sharing in the month of March-2008. Due to economical meltdown, Murthy was not getting good returns after merging his company, while Vijay Rao’s business went up steadily.

This developed a grudge in Murthy against Vijay Rao, leading him to hatch a plan about three months ago to obtain at least Rs two crore from the latter by kidnapping him.

He planned meticulously and engaged the services of his four accomplices to execute his plan, the police said. Accordingly, he got his accomplice to lure Vijay N Rao so that he could be kidnapped.

However, Vijay Rao got suspicious and lodged a complaint, based on which the police swung into action and caught the accused.

They have been sent to judicial custody while the case is being investigated.(INN)

    Shilpa On Cloud Nine

    2007/3/26 7:43:12

Shilpa Shetty, who had no films before doing the reality TV show in Britain, has a large number of film offers now. Her condition can easily be imagined in her 'Metro' where she played the second fiddle to after Kangana Ranaut. However, 'Big Brother' brought her luck and she has started rolling in offers while she was waiting for a single film few months back. She has got more than 70 film offers now, if film industry sources are to be believed.

Besides, during her recent visit to Britain, she has had a meeting with the Queen. This is indeed great for her! So, she is on cloud nine these days. This may be the reason why she hasn't signed even a single film in spite of innumerable film offers to her. She has the temerity to say that no offer is good enough to be signed immediately. It is said that Shilpa has shown the thumb to director Pankaj Parasar of the 'Banaras' fame and also rejected an offer to act in Jag Mohan Mundhra's forthcoming movie.

Let's see what kind of role she will play first.

3M Inc unveils Rs.100 crore research centre in Bangalore

2011/9/23 11:56:47 Global innovative products maker 3M Inc Friday unveiled its Rs.100-crore India research and development (R&D) centre in this tech hub to manufacture and localise a range of products for the burgeoning Indian market.

"We are making an upfront investment of Rs.100 crore in the India R&D facility to develop products for the Indian market and accelerate localisation initiatives," 3M chief technology officer Fred J. Palensky told reporters.

The US-based $27-billion multinational, formerly known as the Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing (3M) company, produces thousands of products in seven key industry segments such as infrastructure, automotive, healthcare, construction, oil & gas, safety and retail.

"Our target is to generate 40 percent of our revenues from products 'made in India for India' over the next five years (by fiscal 2016) when sales are projected to touch Rs.4,800 crore ($1 billion) from Rs.1,176 crore ($245 million) in fiscal 2011," 3M India Ltd managing director Ajay Nanavati said.

Currently, of the 7,000 products 3M sells in the Indian market, about 30 percent are developed, customised and localised to cater to domestic customers across the seven industry verticals.

Though the Indian subsidiary was set up 23 years ago as a joint venture with the Yash Birla group, it became 3M's wholly-owned company after the exit of Yashovardhan Birla in 2006.

"Besides focusing on developing products for key industry segments, the 25 labs in the centre will work on developing expertise in technologies such as adhesives, non-wovens, acoustics, polymer processing, software & integrated systems and design, predictive engineering and modelling, protective coatings and accelerated weathering," Palensky pointed out.

3M's popular brands in the Indian market are Scotch Tape and Scotch Brite, the utensils' scrubber.

The Indian subsidiary has filed 14 patents in 2010 and has to its credit 23 product innovations developed at its innovation centre in Bangalore.

"We invest 2.5 percent of our net sales in our R&D as against five percent by the parent firm worldwide," Nanavati pointed out.

The American conglomerate corporation has 85 labs across 37 countries worldwide, employing about 10,000 technical people.

"We assume that technological capabilities have no boundaries or barriers. Any product or manufacturing technology is available to any business in any industry in any geography the world over. The Indian R&D centre will be guided by this cross collaboration of technologies to develop customer centric solutions," Palensky added.

    Digital makeover for Guide

    2008/4/15 8:59:53

Dev Anand's Guide is getting a makeover. Nearly 200 technicians are working at this lab in Hyderabad to give the evergreen classic a new dash of colour.

The Eastmancolor-corrected, jazzed up version of the film will be screened at the Cannes Film Festival next month.

"When Guide is restored and recolourised, it will give you a different flavour. It gives you a different experience and value for money when you will go and see it in today's theatres," said Rajesh Kalidindi, President, Goldstone Technologies.

Goldstone Technologies has already given its finishing touch to another Dev Anand film, the black and white Hum Dono and is awaiting a nod from the actor-director to re-release the film.

"He had no words when he saw the final Hum Dono. He must have never expected that this will be the kind of quality that will be produced," said Rajesh Kalidindi.

Unlike Hum Dono, where the background score was re-recorded from mono to dolby sound, Kishore Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar will sound just the same in this new improved version of Guide.

The sound track has however, been cleaned up to weed out any damage over time.

It's not just the Dev magic that's getting techno-improved. Work is underway on 40 more classic films, the first of them, Kannada superstar Dr Rajkumar's Satya Harishchandra will re-release next week on his birth anniversary.

    Kissing isn't taboo: Emraan Hashmi

    2011/7/19 6:27:18

He made kissing on-screen a routine. And actor Emraan Hashmi insists that he is not bothered by the ‘serial-kisser’ tag he has earned over the years. He feels that such tags make no difference in the long run.

Quiz him about it and he says, “I want people to give me credit for my performance and not for kissing alone. I pretty much hate the tag as it is unfair and takes the focus away from your performance. But after eight years of being given the tag, today it doesn’t bother me as much. Anyway, kissing isn’t taboo, so I fail to understand the hype around it, even today. I’m least bothered and prefer concentrating on my work and entertaining people.”

Hashmi is now said to be good friends with filmmaker Ekta Kapoor. What does he have to say about their new found friendship? “Ekta and I share a great equation. I love the interesting topics she picks to make films. She is easy going and has a vision. I agree with her keen sense of marketing films. I also respect her for her daring spirit to stand firm against all odds,” says Hashmi as he is all praises for Kapoor. He is also working with National Award winning film director, Dibakar Banerjee and he is on cloud nine for the same.

“I love his stories. They are fresh, and I’m fascinated by them. His sensibility of filmmaking is very interesting. His idea of doing workshops to know and get into the skin of the character, makes one’s role look absolutely effortless on screen,” reveals Hashmi.

Abids firm booked for Illegal Commodity Trading

2011/7/27 13:40:38 The Abids police, on Wednesday registered a case against a private firm for indulging in illegal commodity trading activities and are questioning the proprietors.

According to the office of Central Zone Deputy Commissioner of Police Akun Sabharwal, Rupiah Investments at Chirag Ali Lane, was booked after the police received information that it was indulging in commodity derivatives market.

This illegal activity involves transactions called ‘Dabba Trading’. ‘Dabba Trading’ is the process used by brokers to route their client’s trades outside the stock exchange. The broker executes orders on his own and saves transaction costs.

This is a parallel system achieved by brokers with large volumes of trades and clients and is an unlawful event since many people lose their lifelong savings.

The Indian Dabba trade is a variation of the American Bucket Shop Operations of the 1920s, which were known to have mafia links. In India also, a sizeable number of brokers and sub-agents especially in Mumbai and Gujarat are known to have links with the underworld.

A case under section 20 (C) and (D) Forward Contracts (Regulation) Act 1952 has been registered and investigation taken up. As part of investigation, the premises of the firm were searched. Financial documents recovered are being analysed and computers and other peripherals used in the illegal trade have been ‘electronically’ sealed.

The proprietor of the firm Sachin Pitti and his partner Navneet are being questioned by the Police.

The Forward Markets Commission of Ministry of Consumer Affairs has been approached to render technical assistance to the city police in this case, the DCP office said. (INN)
