2006/9/18 9:33:05 Here is the scoop of the month. So we talk about Indian’s going international in the film world. Well, now the tables have turned and how much they have turned.
Francis Ford Coppola, director the probably the best gangster film of all time The Godfather needed some outsourcing to be done for his latest film Youth without Youth. Apparently some scenes had to be shot in India but Coppola could not make it here and so he asked none other than Vishal ‘Omkara’ Bharadwaj to shoot certain scenes for him. Bharadwaj along with his team as well as Coppola’s second unit shot the film in Mumbai from September 6 to 8.
Bharadway was very happy with this development and when Coppola had asked him how much remuneration he would charge, Bharadwaj politely declined and said it was an honour to serve you.
Three cheers to you Vishal!
Youth without Youth is a pre-WWII drama where a major incident turns a professor into a fugitive.

Her portrayal of a British Asian girl in "Namastey London" may have earned her rave reviews, but Katrina Kaif is fed up of waiting for a big hit.
"I'm tired of waiting for my films to work. I know I am just three-films-old and my first film 'Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya' was quite a success. But I still haven't been able make a place for myself," Katrina told IANS.
She has a reason to be happy though. On the sets of her new film "Race", she has found a chess partner.
"Thank god, Saif Ali Khan is an avid chess player like me. Whenever the camera is switched off we play chess. Over here in India nobody plays chess. Earlier, I persuaded my sister. I had to virtually bribe people to play chess with me."
The London-born actress, who has found the perfect part of a Londoner in "Namastey London" so early in her career, said: "When Shah offered me the role, I wasn't very sure I could pull it off. Once I was on, he gave me the freedom to interpret the character how I wanted. That really helped me to come to grips with my character's language and personality.
"Some reviewer in Mumbai commented that I pronounced words wrongly. Hello! This is probably some guy who has spent his life in Mumbai. I lived in London and know how to speak like young Indians out there. I've a good mind to dash off a letter to him."
In fact, one of Katrina's chief attractions in doing "Namastey London" was that she had the chance to finally dub her own lines.
"But you won't believe this, I finally wanted to chicken out of dubbing my own lines. I had this lengthy 45-minute discussion with Shah, convincing him why I couldn't dub. He heard me out quietly. I think, secretly he had decided I'd do the dubbing. I finally relented. But I made the sound recordist's life miserable. He finally told me to get out of the recording studio and return only during my next film. Thankfully, it's turned out well now."
She's grateful to Akshay Kumar for agreeing to do "Namastey London" with her. "Not too many actors in his position would want to do a female-oriented subject. But Akshay had absolutely no qualms. I like that."
Surprisingly, Katrina had more off-camera fun with Akshay during the making of their other film "Humko Deewana Kar Gaye".
"People are talking about the compatibility visible between us in 'Namastey...' but it was the other film where we really had all the fun. This time it was a far more serious business. Off-camera we were discussing scenes, getting our stance right, and so on. In 'Namastey...', Shah and I had more fun."
Katrina and her director Shah have now established a gratifying comfort zone between them.
"Before the film released I'd ask him the same question 20 times. I guess I was just nervous. He would patiently answer the first few times and then cut me short saying, 'The answer isn't going to change, no matter how many times you ask me.'
Next Katrina will be seen in Anil Sharma's "Apne".
"Though my co-star in the film is Bobby Deol, I'm completely captivated by Sunny Deol. He's the hero I've watched in my growing years. Whenever he's on the sets, I'm totally tongue-tied."
2007/11/21 13:05:51 The bandh call given by the farmer associations received mixed respnse. Political parties like the TDP, BJP, Communists and others backed the bandh. RTC buses were off the roads in many districts. While the bandh had a poor impact in the twin cities, in some districts, business and transport came to a stand still. The bandh call was given to demand MSP for paddy.

The country has to provide livelihood opportunities to 1.5 crore to 2 crore youth every year.
Talking to media at a career expo organized by the Student Islamic Organization of India, he said that about 60 lakh of youth in Andhra Pradesh would have to be provided employment avenues in the next five years.
Dr Narayan wanted the Government and voluntary organizations to impart training and skills to the youth so that they could meet the industry’s growing demand for skilled personnel.
He recalled that Lok Satta activists in Kukatpally constituency, which he represents in the Assembly, had enabled 1500 youth to find employment opportunities in the last six months by organizing training and providing counselling.

Poonam Pandey committed to strip if India wins final against SL
2011/4/1 5:04:24
She is all of 20 and ready to strip for Team India. Mumbai-based model Poonam Pandey wants to keep her commitment to bare all if India wins the World Cup.
Pandey told TOI on Thursday: ''Of course, I am going to do it. But where? I can bare all wherever they want. It can be inside the players' dressing room or even in the stadium.''
Pandey insisted she has got overwhelming support from the people of India. ''They are encouraging me. Even my parents are proud of me because I am doing something for Team India. They have no issues with my going nude.''
When told that nudity is considered an offence and that she may get into trouble, the model said: ''I am going to take permission from BCCI. I really don't want to do anything that is against the law.''
Her friends and colleagues on Facebook, though, requested that she must strip with or without BCCI's permission. Fellow model Shweta Sharma posted: "Poonam has to bare all even if BCCI says no. Please don't give an excuse saying I will go nude only if they agree".
Pandey said daring to bare is the best way to cheer team India after their win. Her Facebook status says: "I am a New Generation Girl!!! Anything for my country to get home the World Cup. So INDIA cheer with me that we need 1983 World Cup BACK." Pandey has been one of the most searched persons on the internet in the past two days.
Best of luck to Sachin and Muthaiah! Best of luck to team India as well as Sri Lanka. May the best team win today.
India and Sri Lanka are evenly matched and are more or less equal in all the three departments – bowling, batting and fielding.
While everyone on India wants Dhoni and his team to win the world cup, it is the same with the Sri Lankans.
However, for the team members there is another motivation too. For Sachin Tendulkar and Muthaiah Muralitharan this is undoubtedly their last match in world cup. Both of them want to end their carriers on high note by lifting the world cup.
Politics begin locally: LSP chief to budding politicos
2011/6/4 12:38:23
“All politics is local,” Lok Satta Party president Jayaprakash Narayan told youth on Saturday.
Addressing student participants in a three-day training program organized by youth for a Better India (YBI) in Hyderabad, Dr Narayan advised them to focus on local problems and strive to bring about a transformation in people’s lives.
“I do not have even an iota of doubt about the new generation’s ability and competence to transform India,” the LSP chief said and added it might to have slog until it succeeds. “You cannot generate steam until you boil water up to 100 degrees C.”
Transformation in India does not take place until those who are sincere and committed and have the competence take the lead. They will, however, succeed only when people appreciate what is good for them and choose to elect the right people to represent them. Which of the two precedes or follows is asking the egg and chick question.
Dr Narayan bemoaned that the educated and the middle class, who viewed politics as demeaning and politicians as wretched, refrained from going to the polling booth. If only they had voted for the Lok Satta Party in the 2009 elections, the State would have witnessed a transformation in politics even without the party coming into power.
YBI Coordinator D Narasimha Rao said that about 5000 students would be trained in leadership responsibilities in the next two years. The training focused on utilizing the provisions of the Right to Information Act, youth empowerment, and movements against corruption and campaigns on local issues.
Nanjing, China: World Champion Viswanathan Anand suffered a shock defeat at the hands of Etienne Bacrot of France in the fourth round of the Pearl Spring Chess tournament in Nanjing.
Just when he was sitting pretty with a black-piece win against arch-rival Veselin Topalov of Bulgaria, Anand was in for the biggest surprise of this season as Bacrot, once the youngest Grandmaster in the world, played energetically to catch the Indian ace off guard and score one of the biggest wins of his career.
It turned out to be a tough day for Anand in the Slav defence game wherein the Indian went for a well-analysed piece sacrifice variation.
As is typical of the opening, Anand got four pawns in exchange for his piece, but the nature of black pawns remained fragile.
To Bacrot's credit, he went for a relatively less played system, which should have been equal but Anand was caught off-guard in the exchanges that took place intermittently leading to a two pawn deficit for the Indian.
Technically, things were not easy but Bacrot did not let the opportunity slip and won in 46 moves.

2011/6/8 5:21:43
Katrina Kaif yet again tops the list of the Sexiest Women 2011 conducted by the world’s largest men’s lifestyle magazine –FHM. The FHM 100 Sexiest Women poll is based entirely on online polls and SMS with a whopping number of over 35,000 entries being cast this year. Katrina Kaif has previously been voted the Sexiest Woman in the World by FHM India in 2008 and 2009.
Kabeer Sharma, Executive Editor of FHM India says “We’d love to say 2011 was a close contest…only Sheila made sure it was far from. A feat that becomes even more significant because no woman in the world across all 28 editions of FHM has ever won the Sexiest Woman in the World title three times in the last 17 years that we've been making the list. Her average is higher than Sachin Tendulkar’s and she replaces Deepika Padukone who won the crown in 2010,”
Katrina Kaif is the toast of the season as not too long ago she was the only Bollywood Actress to feature on the India Today’s Elite Power list and has the most Google searches than any other Indian celebrity. If that wasn’t all Katrina was immortalized by Mattel who created a one-of a-kind ‘I Can Be a Movie Star’ Barbie Doll sketched on her image.

Malayalam superstar Mammootty was given the biggest applause as he shared his visions on the youth in the Eighth All India Conference of the DYFI being held at Chennai.
Mammootty, who has a huge fan following in Tamil Nadu as well, was addressing thousands in the first official party function that he was attending. He was invited as the chief guest of the function.
Mammootty who started his speech with the traditional Vannakkam in Tamil, switched over to English for the benefit of DYFI delegates from other parts of India and abroad. He stressed that youth power is like atomic energy, it can be used to generate power. He said the bane of our present Indian society is communalism, casteism and regionalism.
“I memorize all my scripts for films, but what I am saying today is from my heart,” Mammootty said as he gained the biggest claps among the speakers. He added that the Gujarat carnage in 2002 would not have happened, if the Communist Party of India-Marxist's (CPI-M) youth wing had been stronger in that state.
Mammootty also saw a greater role for Left parties in Jammu and Kashmir. He also made it a point that the DYFI must plan rebellion only against that acts that the common man finds important and not on all issues that their oppositions sparks off.
Every Speaker who spoke on the occasion acknowledged Mammootty’s contribution to the movement. N Ram, the editor of Hindu described him as "an outstanding cultural personality who also does popular cinema".
2010/12/21 17:22:44 The AICC general secretary, Mr Rahul Gandhi, is all set to address several youth rallies in the state to prevent young leaders in the Congress from joining the party to be started by the former Kadapa MP, Mr Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. He will also make efforts to rejuvenate the NSUI and the Youth Congress, the student and youth wings of the party, by fresh enrolment and organisational polls at various levels. The Chief Minister, Mr N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, who was in Delhi to attend the Congress plenary session, interacted with Mr Rahul Gandhi on the sidelines and aired his concerns. Following this, the Nehru family scion agreed to address youth rallies in January and also promised to visit the state at regular intervals to energise the youth.
The Chief Minister has sought Mr Rahul Gandhi’s help to prevent youth leaders from coming under the influence of Mr Jagan. Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy also wants to revamp the schemes for the youth and channelise them properly.
“Unless the party youth wings highlight these programmes and schemes it is not possible to get credit for what the government has been doing,” he reportedly told Mr Rahul Gandhi. The AICC secretary and MLC, Mr P. Sudhakara Reddy, confirmed that Mr Rahul Gandhi would visit to state to attend youth rallies. “He is very particular about AP state party affairs especially on overhauling both NSUI and Youth Congress wings,” he said. “He is much concerned about the happenings here, and has promised to dedicate some of his time in setting things right.”
