(IANS)A new diagnostic tool would enable doctors diagnose a patient's diabetic condition much faster and more comprehensively, reveals a study.
Even the number of mouse clicks required to find information was reduced from 60 to three, saving time besides showing what kind of lab tests were needed.
Physicians using the dashboard correctly identified the required data hundred percent of the time, compared with 94 percent using traditional electronic records, according to researchers who developed the tool, the journal Annals of Family Medicine reported.
"Diabetes care is complex because there are so many other health conditions tied with the condition that requires coordination," said Richelle Koopman, researcher at Missouri's American School of Medicine.
"Doctors can see, at a glance, everything that might affect their decision. This makes their minds lighter and helps them make better decisions about patients' care," he said.
"Doctors are going to spend 15 minutes with each patient, but instead of using a large portion of that time to search through charts for information, they can have interactive conversations with patients about lifestyle and diet changes that are important for diabetes care," Koopman added.
2011/9/4 13:52:17 Toronto, Sep 4 (IANS) Resveratrol, a natural compound found in grapes, mulberries and peanuts is effective against diabetes, claims a study.
Resveratrol has been shown to extend the lifespan of many species.
Human offsprings that have trouble developing in the womb have a higher risk of developing metabolic problems later in life, the journal Diabetes reports.
University of Alberta researchers Jason Dyck and Sandra Davidge found that giving resveratrol to young offsprings of lab rats after weaning, actually prevented the development of certain symptoms of diabetes.
2011/11/13 11:54:33 (IANS) The dietary habits of the Spanish population suggest that eating fish is a good way of keeping diabetes at bay.
University of Valencia's Mercedes Sotos Prieto, who conducted the study involving 945 men and women aged between 55 and 80 years with a high cardiovascular risk, found that fish consumption lowered the diabetes risk.
Eating red meat in excess is tied to higher cardio risk, higher blood pressure, diabetes and a moderate decrease in life expectancy mainly due to cancer or heart disease, the journal Nutricion Hospitalaria reports.
Conversely, fish is a staple in the Mediterranean diet and has health benefits for the heart, according to Spain's University of Valencia statement.
Various hypotheses have been put forward that attempt to explain why the consumption of fish can be related to diabetes, the researchers explain.
The increase of Omega-3 in the cells of the skeletal muscles improves insulin sensitivity, a factor associated with the lowered risk of diabetes.

2007/8/24 9:18:33 Yes, the mighty Yamadharmaraju who controls the life of Samasthakoti manava jaathi is suffering from Blood Pressure! And not just that, he is also suffering from diabetes, arthritis and what not. He is getting old and cannot walk without the help of support. All this is from the film Yamagola. The director thought that it would be funny to portray Yama this way and raise cheap laughter. But it sure is likely to backfire.
Artistic liberty cannot be stretched too far. Gods, and goddesses are considered to be immortal and free from all ailments. How come then did director Srinivasa Reddy conceive this idea? Is it because the person who plays Yama – Kaiakala Sathyanarayana is old so by showing him that way, does he think he is trying to portray reality on screen?
The actor refused to use glycerine for a scene in Zindaggi Rocks, saying that it is a tool for non-actors
Shiney Ahuja, who plays a doctor in Tanuja Chandra's Zindaggi Rocks, was all ready for his shot. That is, till Chandra asked him to use glycerine for an emotional scene where Shiney was required to sob. But the actor was adamant about not using glycerine, he wanted to deliver the shot naturally.
"Tanuja wanted me to use glycerine, but I didn't. I think glycerine is a tool for non-actors. I have done intense scenes before but have never used glycerine," says Shiney.
"Shiney is very particular about not using glycerine. He feels glycerine looks artificial. For him, a scene has to be motivating enough to bring tears in his eyes," explains Chandra.
The director was taken aback when she saw Shiney burst into tears within a few minutes. "It's difficult, but most of the time I place myself in a given situation and automatically tears starts rolling down my eyes. It's a human instinct and I think every actor should practice it," says Shiney.
The actor also feels that these days most actresses concentrate more on their hairstyle and make-up, than acting.
"Barring Sushmita Sen, I have not seen a single actress who pays attention to her character. I think every actor should attend a few theatre workshops rather than wasting their time in beauty parlours and gymnasiums," Shiney adds.
However, the actor seemed tight-lipped, when quizzed about his character in Zindaggi Rocks, "Every actor talks about his/her film before the release. But I leave it to the audience to decide whether a film is good or bad. I would rather wait for the film to release and then talk about it," he explains.
The actor has been recently signed by T Series for Priyadarshan's next with Vidya Balan. Shiney will soon start shooting for Sudhir Mishra's Bahut Nikhle Armaan with Soha Ali Khan.
Ram Gopal Varma’s Aggi is a burnout. The film has received uniform condemnation from critics as well as cine goers. It is undoubtedly one of the worst films ever made by RGV. The film was touted as a sequel to Sholay but has turned out to be a dud.
Many jokes are doing the rounds about the film some say that the police should use the film to torture suspects during interrogation, by showing it repeatedly, and some say that the film should be shown to life convicts too at prisons, particularly, to those who are undergoing rigorous imprisonment.

New Delhi, Nov 3 (IANS) Actress Gul Panag believes good films definitely do well, but a good marketing strategy is the smartest tool to promote a film and reach out to more people.
"I would definitely like to say that if a film is good, then it will do well. But in today's times, a good film needs to be presented to the audience in a smart way, for which a lot of marketing is required. If the marketing is not good, then even a good film will not be able to reach out to the target audience," Gul told reporters on the sidelines of an event here.
The actress, who earned critical acclaim for her performance in films like "Dor", "Manorama Six Feet Under" and "Turning 30", married her long time boyfriend, Rishi Attari early this year.
She feels one should marry when he or she wants to and not out of societal pressure.
"I recommend marriage to girls who want to marry out of choice. I don't believe that marriage can be done when someone else chooses (someone) for you and you just get married. Women must have the right to choose whom to marry and when to marry," she added.

2011/11/10 3:07:06 (IANS) The human body is better geared to fighting gum disease when fat cells, which trigger inflammation, go away.
Inflammation that continues to brew in the body can have harmful effects over time, and inflammation from gum disease can erode bone and cause tooth loss.
Inflammation can also cause breaks in the gums where harmful oral bugs can enter the blood stream. They have been linked to pre-term birth, foetal death, heart disease, diabetes and arthritis, said Nabil Bissada, professor in periodontics at Case Western Reserve School of Dental Medicine.
The findings come from a pilot study of obese people with gum disease. Half of the group with an average body mass index (BMI), a height to weight ratio, of 39 had gastric bypass surgery and had fat cells from the abdomen removed, according to a Case Western statement.
That half fared better than a group of obese people with a BMI of 35 who were also treated for gum disease but did not have the gastric bypass surgery or fat removed, the Journal of Periodontology reports.
The majority of those who underwent surgery had a drop in their glucose levels.
2011/10/21 7:38:25 The Bihar government has uploaded clips of complaints against Bihar officials who allegedly sought bribes to implement welfare schemes.
The aim, Rural Development Minister Nitish Mishra said, was "to embarrass and expose the officials".
"We have uploaded clips of complaints against officials who demanded bribes from the poorest of the poor in connection with the Indira Awas Yojana (IAY)," Mishra told IANS. "It is a big hit."
Mishra had vowed nearly two months ago to use YouTube as a tool to expose the corrupt and bribe seekers.
Nearly one million people living below the poverty line were given in August the first instalment of money under IAY to build houses.
The government directed all district officials to make arrangements to record video of complaints by beneficiaries of IAY at the camps.
The move follows increasing complaints by villagers about officials asking for bribes to get work done with respect to the IAY.
The minister said the government had lodged police complaints against 72 officials. "We have also issued show cause notices against them."
The central government has sanctioned over Rs.3,000 crore to build IAY houses this year. IANS

The Minister is dashing off to Visakhapatnam on July 9 to collect a firsthand account of some 12 deaths reportedly from Mannem, the tribal area in the district. The district Collector informed the Minister that some 10 to 12 people reportedly died due to unspecified fever.
The Minister informed that he was not clear about the diagnosis and was rushing to the district for ascertaining the cause of deaths. “Whether it is malaria or diarrhoea is not clear,” Health and Medical Education Minister D L Ravindra Reddy told media persons at the Secretariat on Thursday.
He added that 20 medical teams have been dispatched from the district head quarters to the tribal area. “As many as five doctors and staff nurses and others have been sent for enquiry,” the Minister said.
Expressing concern over the said deaths of the innocent Tribals, the Minister asserted that efforts would be made to update their awareness and then provide medical care to them as far as possible.
Meanwhile, the much talked about Legislation in respect of keeping the clinical trials on humans under check is yet to be introduced. In the recent past, the clinical trials on women victims from Guntur district evoked great deal of controversy with both the Central and state governments coming at the receiving end with no proper check on those going ahead with the said trials.
“It is a Central subject and it takes time,” Dr Ravindra Reddy said when asked when the proposed Legislation would be introduced.
Meanwhile the erring Axis Clinicals Limited has been under seize for subjecting the victims from Piduguralla in Guntur district to said trials for promoting its business.

He was of the opinion that such ‘hiccups’ arose in any administration, but he went on to clarify again that there were some problems which would be addressed.

2011/7/12 11:59:36 The state government has taken cudgels against Tobacco consumption and is determined to implement the existing Act with an iron hand to dampen the habit which was taking its daily toll of 200 persons in the state.
At a review meeting at the Secretariat on Tuesday with senior officials of the Public Health Department, Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy instructed them to control the tobacco consumption effectively.
However, on the other side of the coin, the Central government would incur a loss of Rs 40,000 crore annually if the tobacco related products sales decline and its consumption is discouraged.
The toll taken by the killer tobacco was equally baffling.
Yearly 10.50 lakh consumers die in the country and 8 per cent of these are in Andhra Pradesh who lose their lives due to consumption of tobacco and its related products like gutkha, cigarettes, beedies among others.
The Chief Minister left clear instructions to decrease the tobacco crop, 40 per cent of which was grown in the state.
More and more people were falling into the habit of consuming it and it resulted in cancer, diabetes, lung infection, the Chief Minister is believed to have told the officials. Men accounted for 30 per cent tobacco consumption, females 5 per cent and youth 4 per cent. The state tops in tobacco consumption in the country.
Following the Chief Minister’s instructions, strict measures would be taken to prevent smoking at public places like cinema halls, hotels, institutions, bus and railway stations etc and a fine of Rs 200 will be levied from the smoker on a complaint, Principal Secretary, Health, P V Ramesh told newsmen while giving details of the review meeting.(INN)

Special Judge Sangita Dhingra Sehgal rejected both his pleas for regular and interim bail. The judge also said that he would stay in the All India Institute of Medical Sciences as long as the doctors thought this to be necessary.

2011/4/17 2:38:01 Maverick director Ram Gopal Varma who spills his power of wisdom through his tweets has find several flaws about Ramayana and it’s characters. He wrote that, he educates himself on this subject by going through “Ramayana Visha Vriksham’ book written Muppala Ranga Nayakamma and certified that, it is one of the greatest books that he ever read in his life.
The next day, as did he expected hundreds and thousands of people strongly protesting and condemning his remarks have put him back in the news head lines. Even, his colleague director SS.Rajamouli can’t stop himself from joining the fray against RGV, which further boosts the spirits of RGV.
RGV starting the second episode of his ‘Ramayana’ has tweeted that, if he could get the rights of Ramayana Visha Vriksham from Ranaga Nayakamma he is keen to make a film on it, in which he plans to project Lord Sri Rama as the villain.
His tweets in his own words:
1.Ranganayakamma gaaru rights isthe yeppatikayina aavida `Raamayana visha vraksham` aadhaaranga oka cinema thiyyalani naa korika
2. Wht I say in one sentence othr writers cannot say in whole books nd most readers cannot undrstand in their life times..nietzsche (ecce homo)
SSRajamouli’s response to RGV Tweet: For millions of Indians valmiki wrote Ramayana as a moral conduct on which they shud lead their lives. For ppl like ranganayakamma it was written as tool for the strong (men) to exploit the weak(women)telling them this is morality. For me it is neither.Ramayana is an exceptional
