(IANS) Singer-actress Jessica Simpson says her past fashion mistakes helped her to create best designs for her apparel and shoes line.
"There are a lot of things I've worn and look back on and think, 'Oh, my'. When it comes to beauty, I think a big misconception is the tanner you are, the more beautiful you are. It's not always true. I look back on a lot of pictures where I'm really tan, and I'm like, 'Whoa," people.com quoted the 31-year-old Simpson as saying.
"I'm in all those meetings. I know the zipper pulls, I know what you're going to be purchasing next spring. I know what's going to be trending. It's really fun to take all those meetings and try and play great guessing games of what the public's going to buy," she added.

Ashlee Simpson got her fairy tale wedding to Pete Wentz on Saturday complete with an "Alice in Wonderland" themed reception at her parents' Los Angeles area home, according to People magazine.
Simpson, 23, and Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz, 28, exchanged vows in front of 150 people at her parent's home in Encino, a bedroom community in the San Fernando Valley. Joe Simpson, her father, performed the non-denomination ceremony and sister Jessica was the maid of honor, the magazine said.
The bride wore a wedding dress by Monique Lhuillier and a diamond necklace and earrings by Neil Lane, the magazine said. The reception featured a wedding cake piled high with a top hat, tea pot, stop watch and a pot of flowers on top, People said.
A flurry of arrangements on Saturday afternoon just outside the guarded gates of the Simpson's property indicated that the pop singer's wedding to Wentz was imminent.
White shuttle vans with deeply tinted windows were streaming through the gates, as were several delivery vehicles, including some marked as belonging to celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck.
Drivers of a few expensive cars who arrived at the guard tower were told to park elsewhere and take a shuttle. One was a well-dressed woman who arrived in an Audi packed with red boxes.

Meanwhile in related news Pete Wentz has credited his fiancee Ashlee Simpson and his regular therapy sessions with helping him overcome depression. The bassist recently admitted that he was once so depressed he tried to kill himself. "With summer-resort 2012, we aim to further strengthen the concept of resort wear and continue to promote and mentor talent in fashion," she said in a statement.
The list of the participating designers has not been announced yet.
A gamut of Bollywood celebrities are also expected.

"Louis Vuitton taking me to Paris for Fashion Week. Next few days full of fun, excitement n glamour. Taking off now, see u when I am back! I sleep now in Mumbai, wake up in Paris," Sonakshi wrote on microblogging site Twitter late Saturday.
Sonakshi, who rose to fame with Salman Khan starrer "Dabangg" isn't new to the fashion world. She has been a student of fashion designing and worked as a backstage coordinator before jumping into filmdom. She is off and on also seen on the ramp as a showstopper.
Sonakshi, it seems, is on cloud nine after having six films in the pipeline. She is shooting for "Joker" and "Rowdy Rathore", both of which star Akshay Kumar. She has "Race 2", "Son of Sardar" and is also doing "Dabangg 2" and "Kick" with Salman.

The vibes between the film's director and Priyanka who comes straight from the actioner Drona to the delicate intricacies of the beau monde in Fashion has to be believed to be seen.
"She's amazingly focussed and intelligent. I've just worked for a few days with her. But Priyanka will be very special in Fashion," Bhandarkar says.
The film's other leading lady Kangana Ranaut is yet to start shooting. "But I've written some powerful confrontation scenes between the two actresses. They will be fabulous together, I know it," says Bhandarkar.
Bhandarkar hopes to wrap up the shooting by June. He denies rumours that the film is heading for the Paris Fashion Week.
"We could shoot the fashion week in New York, Milan or Paris. And these scenes don't have to be integral to the plot. They could just be part of the credit titles for all we know."
"See, Fashion is my most glamorous film to date, I don't deny that," admits Bhandarkar. "But to me getting to the emotional core of my characters is very important. Fashion won't be a superficial glossy film. Like all my films it will have a very strong emotional core."

The event will comprise a theme-based fashion show and an auto show where Mercedes-Benz will showcase its cars.
"The bold and sometimes decadent style of fashion parties has made the by-invitation Stylo a much-coveted VIP invitation during the F1 of recent years," Dato Nancy Yeoh, president of Stylo International, said here Tuesday.

Madhur Bhandarkar turns his gaze to the fashion world. After making a film on the Page 3 circuit and the corporate world he is now planning to make a film on the fashion fraternity.
"It’s just a concept and I’m still working on it. I thought that no one has made a film on the fashion fraternity so far. That is what made me want to make a film on it," said the director who has tasted success with almost each of his film, and most recently with Corporate.
Bhandarkar was seen hobnobbing with his designer friends at hotel Grand Hyatt, in the Capital, the venue of the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week.
"I have come here to research, explore the different angles of the fashion world," said Bhandarkar amid the busy lounge of the Grand Hyatt where preparations are on to wind up the five-day long fashion extravaganza.
When asked as to what kind of people has he been meeting Bhandarkar said, "There are all kinds of people here. Some of them are my designer friends. I’m exploring a human angle to the fashion fraternity and the people involved in it as a subject to my next film."
So what really struck him the most? "Everything about the fashion industry is remarkable. The style, the grace, everything," Bhandarkar said.
And what about egoistic designers and weird looking models? Bhandarkar could not stop his sheepish smile. "Well the concept is too premature to be talked about. It will take at least three to four months for me to develop the idea into script. Carve a human angle to it and create the kind of cinema I always make."
When asked to name any of his favourite designers, "lots of them" came the reply. "I buy anything that interests me. I have always been in love with kurtas. I pick them up from local markets or a fashion store it doesn’t matters," said Bhandarkar.
And though he did not buy any designer clothes at the fashion week, when asked as to what would he be taking back to Mumbai? "The script of course," said Bhandarkar with a clever grin on his face.
So we know what is coming up next from Bhandarkar, yet another film that perhaps has all the grey shades of the glamourous fashion industry.
New Delhi, Oct 20 (IANS) The Dubai Fashion Week (DFW) has for the first time invited an Indian American fashion designer, Parna Ghose, to display her ethnic Indian collection.
DFW Spring Summer 2012 is being held at The Arena, Dubai World Trade Center, Oct 20-24 and Ghosh, who designs under her label Pure Elegance, will showcase her couture collection in the grand finale.
"My primary clientele is modern, successful South Asian women. They are constantly balancing between their external existences in professional life with their internal values at home, with families and in social environments," Ghose said in a statement.
"My goal is to help them manage this disparity and strike a balance through style and fashion," she added.
Pure Elegance is the first design house ever from the US to be invited to showcase ethnic Indian fashion like sarees, lehengas, salwars at a major international fashion show.
The model lineup for her collection includes international names like Charlotte Lohmann, Samantha Harris and others.
2011/10/19 7:15:31 The government-run National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) said Tuesday it has signed an agreement with New York-based Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) to run dual-degree programmes.
Now the "selected meritorious" students from NIFT would avail the unique opportunity to obtain a joint degree awarded both by NIFT and FIT.
"The association of two premier fashion institutes would reap benefits which would be multifold in nature," an official statement said.
However, the institute did not give the timeline regarding the implementation of the agreement.
"This agreement will be implemented at the earliest for the benefit of NIFT students."
"It will usher in new paradigmatic changes in the vision and activities of NIFT," Commerce, Industry and Textiles Minister Anand Sharma said in a statement.
In fact, NIFT was established in 1986 in collaboration with the FIT with assistance from United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The New Delhi-based institute runs under the textiles ministry.
A delegation from NIFT recently visited the FIT to explore the possible areas of collaboration.
According to the statement, the two institutes have agreed to collaborate in the areas of fashion design, textile design and fashion communication. (IANS)

One such surprise happens to be Konkona SenSharma. The petite actress known for her powerhouse performances has taken to the ramp for the first time, for designer Arshiya Fakih.
Confirming this, Arshiya says, “Konkona will be the showstopper and I’m really excited about her making a debut on the ramp for my collection.”
Talking about convincing the otherwise media-shy Konkona, Arshiya adds, “She’s a woman of substance and truly reflects my work. Initially she was reluctant to do it, but agreed after some persuasion.”
Says Konkona, “I am nervous for sure. In fact, my first reaction was ‘No way’, but then when I saw Arshiya’s collection, I was really impressed and couldn’t refuse. I guess I should be able to do it, since I am just expected to be myself.”
And while Konkona’s set to make her debut in the fashion world joining the ranks of numerous Bollywood celebs, who’ve taken to the ramp, Arshiya’s all set to make her Bollywood debut as well. Arshiya will be designing for Konkona in her forthcoming Bollywood flick. “I am excited and looking forward to being a part of Bollywood now,” laughs Arshiya.
