New Delhi, Nov 16 (IANS) Bollywood star Abhishek thanked his friends and fans for their best wishes on the birth of his first child Wednesday. He says the mother, actress Aishwarya Rai, and the baby girl are doing fine and resting.
"Thank you all for your prayers and good wishes. Both Aishwarya and the baby are doing great and taking some much needed rest," Abhishek posted on micro-blogging site Twitter.
Aishwarya gave birth to her first child Wednesday morning at a private hospital in Mumbai. Congratulatory messages for the parents, and grandparents - Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan, poured in soon after Abhishek announced ""IT'S A GIRL!!!!!! ))))" on micro-blogging Twitter.
Ash was admitted to the hospital Monday night for delivery, and Abhishek has been by her side all the time.
He is so excited that he is unable to sleep.
"And I'm trying my level best to get rid of this caffeine high and get some sleep too. Don't think it'll work. TOO EXCITED!!!!" added the proud father, who always wished to have a daughter.

New Delhi, Oct 19 (IANS) It was a grand baby shower ceremony for mother-to-be Aishwarya Rai and while celebrities had poured in to congratulate her, Abhishek Bachchan has thanked their fans for wishing her on "Godh Bharai".
"Good morning everyone. Thank you so much for all the wishes for Aishwarya on her Godh Bharai. Read out some of your messages to her," Abhishek posted on Twitter page Wednesday.
The baby shower had taken place at the Bachchan household Jalsa Tuesday and actors like Saira Banu, Asha Parekh and Dimple Kapadia, as well as designers like Neeta Lulla and Shaina NC had turned up.
But the day-long festive ritual hasn't stopped the 35-year-old actor from going back to work. He is currently shooting for Abbas-Mustan's "Players".
"So after a day filled with tradition, Indian customs and ladies, it's back to work. Gotta start playing again for players!" he posted.
"Very excited with the way the film is shaping up. It's looking great. Will let y'all know when we release the 1st look. Will be soon!" he added.

The gorgeous Aishwarya Rai Bachchan says that she is excited before the release of Sarkar Raj that also stars her husband Abhishek Bachchan and her father-in-law Amitabh Bachchan .
Directed by Ram Gopal Varma , 'Sarkar Raj', is scheduled to release next week.
Ash said the Bachchan family had a great experience working for it and were excited about sharing it with the audience.
"I'm always excited, I've never been nervous before (the release of) a film. It's been a great experience and I'm looking forward to sharing it with the audiences", said the former Miss World.
However, the two were yet to watch the film, they said.
Ash was speaking after she and Abhishek purchased a house in Dubai, becoming the latest celebrities from India's tinsel town to acquire property in the gulf island.
Having bought a place in Sanctuary Falls -- a 96-villa double-gated community home -- the actors also attended a "Residents Party" for owners in Jumeirah Golf Estates's this week, a gulf daily reported.
While no details were divulged on the couple's new home, it is expected to be ready in the first quarter of 2010, Gulf News said.
According to the developers, the price of the villas ranges from AED 15 million to AED 35 million (1 AED=0.272 USD).
"Dubai is special to us not just as a place where we enjoy great warmth and generosity in terms of love from the people, but it's become a remarkable place and one that is so close to home for us," Abhishek said.
Asked if they planned to move to the emirate, Abhishek said relocating "in the real sense" was not on the cards, as the family lived and worked in Mumbai.
However Ash said they were looking forward to spend more time in the island.
"It's so close to Mumbai, so we'll probably be spending a lot more weekends here," she was quoted as saying by Gulf News.

Former Miss World Aishwarya, 38, was admitted to the Seven Hills hospital in Andheri, Mumbai, Monday night. The child was delivered in a normal manner a few minutes before 10 a.m. Wednesday.
As soon as the baby was born, Abhishek tweeted: "IT'S A GIRL!!!!!! ))))", while his father, megastar Amitabh Bachchan, shared his excitement on becoming a grandfather.
"I AM DADA to the cutest baby girl, A dada ji ... Ecstatic," posted the 69-year-old, who already has two grandchildren - Agastya and Navya Naveli, children of his daughter Shweta and son-in-law Nikhil Nanda.
Ash and the baby are doing "great", according to Abhishek, who has been by his wife's side ever since she was admitted to the hospital. He hasn't slept well because he is "too excited".
The Bachchan family has been recieving good wishes for the new addition.
Some family friends like former Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh, filmmaker Goldie Behl and his wife Sonali Bendre, as well as filmmakers Apoorva Lakhia and Bunty Walia, visited the hospital to meet the 'Baby B'. Singh was one of the first ones to visit the newborn at the hospital, which had tight security arrangements.
Most celebrities like Anupam Kher, Javed Akhtar, Sonam Kapoor, Karan Johar, Bipasha Basu and Arjun Rampal, as well as melody queen Lata Mangeshkar took to Twitter to shower blessings on the baby girl.
"Bachchan parivaar ko bohot bohot badhaai. Unke ghar mein Lakshmi aayi. (Many congratulations to the Bachchan family. Lakshmi has come into their house)," wrote Mangeshkar, while Johar tweeted: "Congratulations!! Baby B had a baby girl!! @juniorbachchan!!! All the love and happiness...am sure she will be the prettiest girl ever!!!"

Both Abhishek and Amitabh have thanked everyone for their wishes.
Aishwarya tied the knot with Abhishek in April 2007, and the event had grabbed a lot of media attention back then.
Ever since then, be it Aishwarya's baby shower, Karva Chauth or Diwali -- all such events at the Bachchan household attracted mass media coverage in the recent past. However, a 10-point advisory issued to TV channel heads by the Broadcasting Editor's Association (BEA) curtailed the electronic news coverage regarding the high-profile childbirth.
Now, Amitabh is expected to address a press conference in Mumbai either Wednesday night or Thursday morning.

Abhishek will dance and lip-sync Ganesh Hedge's version of R.D. Burman's Mehbooba o mehbooba while Urmila will groove to the funky tune. The senior Bachchan , playing Gabbar, will watch the flamboyant razzmatazz.
In the original Sholay Helen danced, Jalal Agha crooned and Amjad Khan looked on. Abhishek will therefore play Jalal Agha's part. Big B was shooting for his film, Bhootnath, when son Abhishek, who was shooting for an ad next door, dropped in on the sets. In fact, the two kept paying each other mini-visits, sharing jokes and generally having fun. During one such break, Big B went to Abhishek's sets to see him perform when the director sent an assistant to call Big B for a shot. The poor assistant didn't realise that Abhishek's shot was on and he simply walked across to call Big B, coming in the way of Abhishek and the camera.
Says a source , "Abhishek was at his jovial best, and declared in front of all that since the assistant had spoilt his shot, he too would go to the sets of Bhootnath to spoil their shot. And, he did actually go over to Big B's sets during his break. What followed next was hilarious. Abhishek got into Big B's costumes and got hold of the script. Next, he asked for the cameras to start rolling and started saying Big B's dialogues from the script. The entire crew was in splits as they watched Abhishek. Even Big B was amused. He turned to the director and said, 'Oh, You have got a new actor in my place, I should take your leave now.'"
When contacted, director of Bhootnath, Vivek Sharma, confirmed the incident, saying, "Abhishek did drop by on the sets frequently as he was shooting just next door. It was a great experience to watch the great rapport that the father and son share. And yes, Abhishek's antics did have us all in splits."
