2010/12/10 10:55:56 In fact, this is not about any dirty picture of Vidya Balan. It’s the title of a Bollywood film based upon yesteryear hot babe Silk Smitha’s life story. No one could forget the scorching looks of Silk Smitha. She was so popular that she even played lead roles in some films. But, all of a sudden she ends her life by jumping out of her flat. Some says it was an accident and not suicide and some argues that she commits suicide in a depressed mood because of her failures in her personal life. However, her death remains a mystery until now. Her film career and the twists in her personal life indeed are no less to a film story. Hence, Bollywood producer Ekta Kapoor got attracted with her life story and starts a film giving title ‘The dirty picture.’ Vidya Balan is playing Silk Smitha’s role in this film and Bollywood hero Ajay Devgan plays the role of the man who disturbs her life. (IANS) The makers of Vidya Balan starrer "The Dirty Picture" have clarified that the film is not a formal biopic.
"With reference to the legal notice received and the ongoing speculation about the film, Balaji wishes to clarify that 'The Dirty Picture' is the romantic journey of a fiercely ambitious starlet who dreams of making it big on the silver screen," said a statement issued by the film's publicist.
"It draws inspiration from the strugglers in the 1980s whose indomitable spirit made them emerge triumphant and create a unique space for themselves in a male-dominated film industry. The film is not a formal biopic or biography, as is being speculated. It is a work of fiction, and any character's resemblance to real persons, living or dead, is coincidental," it added.
The clarification was issued after a media report that claimed that southern sex icon Silk Smitha's brother, V. Naga Vara Prasad, who lives in a village in Andhra Pradesh, sent a legal notice to the film's producer Ekta Kapoor and director Milan Luthria for not taking permission from the late actress' family before making the movie. Prasad claims that he learned about the film through television.
Silk Smitha committed suicide in 1996.
" 'The Dirty Picture', a spectacular musical entertainer, is in essence, a love story, and a celebration of the never-say-die spirit of every industry newcomer," said the statement.

But, none of they have ever contacted any of our family members and not even Radha Krishna, who lived with my sister until her last day. Come, he may be her husband or boy friend he is the one who should be contacted first. But, they didn't bother to meet him or to know the actual life story of my sister. Vidya will go for `butt pads`, cosmetic enhancements in ‘Dirty Picture’
2011/5/24 4:54:55
Controversy stricken film ‘Dirty Picture’ produced by Ekta Kapoor will see talented actress Vidya Balan in a voluptuous avatar.
Reportedly, the actress, who otherwise has a slim frame, will be going for cosmetic enhancements to justify the role of southern sex symbol, the late Silk Smitha.
Ekta wanted Vidya to gain weight for the role but the ‘Ishqiya’ star was reluctant to do so. So the producer thought of an alternative solution to make the lead actress of her film look as appealing as Silk Smitha.
She instructed one of her assistant directors and make up artist to ensure Vidya looks sexier.
Vidya will go for hip, butt and bust pads to add volume to her figure.
Whether or not Vidya will be able to carry her raunchy avatar is something for us to wait and watch. But it’s certainly good news for all the male fans of the starlet, for they will get to see Vidya get bolder than ever before.
2011/8/31 4:20:10 She is at her boldest ever in "The Dirty Picture", but actress Vidya Balan says she never felt a sense of discomfort shooting for the movie as she was in the "trusted hands" of director Milan Luthria.
"I have never enjoyed being a woman more than I did while shooting for 'The Dirty Picture'. I wasn't uncomfortable doing bold scenes because I knew I was in trusted hands," Vidya told reporters here Tuesday.
The actress, who reprises late southern siren Silk Smitha's rise and fall as a glamourous star in the film, spoke at the theatrical launch of the film.
The movie also features Tusshar Kapoor, Emraan Hashmi and Naseeruddin Shah.
"I have worked with Naseer before but this time it was easier...I was less nervous this time," said Vidya, who had teamed up with the veteran actor in "Ishqiya".
On working with Bollywood's serial kisser Emraan, with whom she has locked lips in the film, she said: "I was wondering how it would be with Emraan, but it was fun."
The trailer promises viewers that Vidya would indeed be seen in a never-seen-before avatar in the film, which is set for release Dec 2.
2011/9/6 0:33:00 If people wish to remember him for his on-screen kisses, so be it, says the somewhat exasperated actor who has for long been looking for an image change.
The 32-year-old actor came to be known as Hindi cinema's serial kisser after numerous lip locks in films like "Murder", "Zeher", "Aashiq Banaya Apne", "Gangster" and "Jannat".
"The tag would never go. I tried to get rid of it, but it follows me everywhere. I have done so many films with it (kissing) and so many people went and watched those films. So probably they want to remember me for that. And if kissing is a great way to remember me, I have no complaints! My audience base is there and I can't change overnight," Emraan told IANS in an interview.
"I am trying out different things in my forthcoming films. Hopefully it would be another dimension, which would change people's perception about me," he added.
"The Dirty Picture" is said to have Emraan in yet another kissing scene, this time with actress Vidya Balan. He however stresses that the film, based on the life of the late southern sex icon Vijayalakshmi aka Silk Smitha, takes sexuality to a different level.
"It's a different take on sexuality. Sexuality in my films was shown differently before this. 'The Dirty Picture' takes it to a different level," said Emraan. (IANS)

Vidya Balan’s special preparation to play the voluptuous Silk Smitha
2011/4/5 5:30:06
Vidya Balan has a mountain to climb. Her role in director Milan Luthria’s film Dirty Picture gives her the boldest makeover she could imagine.
The tragic life of Silk Smitha, the voluptuous siren of South who made a name for herself through raunchy roles in the 80s and 90s, will be recreated in Ekta Kapoor’s production Dirty Picture. Vidya Balan, signed on to play the siren, is supposed to wear costumes like low-neck blouses, translucent tube tops, petticoats, hot pants, et al.
Not just this, Vidya has to put on weight to look chubby and curvier for the latter part of her role. She will be required to bare her mid-riff, thighs and cleavage.
Clearly the demand of skin show and outward display of sexuality has unnerved Vidya. We hear that she has asked her costume designer Niharika Khan to provide her with the costumes a month in advance so that she can get used to them.
Director Milan Luthria was not surprised by Vidya’s demand. He states very clearly that Vidya needs to get a lot bolder in expressing her sexuality in the role.
Vidya Balan will remember shooting her first bathtub scene for all the wrong reasons.
Playing the south siren Silk Smitha in director Milan Luthria’s film Dirty Picture requires Vidya Balan to not just wear revealing clothes, but also take dips in the bathtub. While shooting for her first such scene at Filmcity in Goregaon recently, Vidya unfortunately ended up getting skin rashes. How?
From what we hear, director Milan Luthria ensured minimal crew on the set, and Vidya Balan, wrapped in a towel and a swimsuit beneath, stepped into the bathtub and began filming the scene that had her bathing and playfully blowing the soap bubbles. She did feel itchiness in her skin initially but ignored it. But when rashes began to appear all over her body, the actress panicked, stepped out of the bathtub, got dressed and left to see a dermatologist.
It’s not clear what caused Vidya’s rashes, because the crew used only mineral water for the bathing scene. It could be that Vidya’s skin caught allergy from the soap that was used.
The second schedule of Dirty Picture will be shot in Hyderabad. By then Vidya’s skin rashes would disappear.
