Fashion designer Manish Malhotra has been roped in by filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar to style actress Kareena Kapoor in his ambitious project "Heroine".

Save for a few occasions, Kareena Kapoor has always been loyal to fashion designer Manish Malhotra.
But now the beautiful actress is drifting away to a new designer. Not that there is any spat between Bebo and Manish. It is just that she has worn dresses designed by Manish in so many films that change seems to be the need of the hour.
Bebo seems to have now switched her loyalty to Aki Narula, who designed her resplendent golden coloured outfit in song 'Yeh Mera Dil' in 'Don' last year. That dress highlighted Kareena's curves to the optimum and complemented her beauty.
Now, Narula will design Kareena's dresses in Yashraj Films' 'Tashan' (Style). Apart from Bebo, the movie also stars Saif Ali Khan, Akshay Kumar and Anil Kapoor.
Even though Narula has been quite popular among certain filmstars, he has never been so much in demand as he now is. He is the man who has done the styling of the main stars of forthcoming movie 'Jhoom Barabar Jhoom'.

After Kajol, it's Karisma Kapoor's turn to prove that married moms in Bollywood are very much in the diva category of A-list actresses. Even as Sridevi is poised for a comeback, Karisma Kapoor who has finally agreed to do a feature film Dangerous Ishq has told its director Vikram Bhatt in no uncertain terms about her working methods as a responsible mother and an actress who has several important responsibilities to look into besides acting.
Karisma met director Vikram Bhatt last week at her residence. The meeting lasted for nearly three hours. During the incisive chat Karisma discussed every aspect of her comeback film at length and with a clear-headed directness that took Bhatt aback.
She apparently told the director that she would be able to work only around her baby's daily schedules and that her favourite costume designer Manish Malhotra would be on board.
The intricate and historically-relevant costumes of the film's protagonist that take her through 5 different eras are to be researched by Nidhi Yasha who designed the costume for Bhatt's Haunted. Manish Malhotra would actually design the clothes. But Karisma who has hardly ever worked with any other designer other than Manish Malhotra gently but firmly asked for Manish to do her clothes.
Says Vikram, "There was no compulsion to take on Manish. He is the best in the business of clothes and it'd be a pleasure and privilege to work with him. Nidhi Yasha would now be researching Karisma's clothes. Manish would actually be designing them."
It's the best of times for Kareena Kapoor. After the runaway success of Omkara and the Smita Patel Memorial Award which she received on September 19, today is Kareena's birthday.
With things going right in more ways than one, Kareena has finally decided to take a brief sabbatical from work. She's celebrating her 26th birthday in Goa with a bunch of close friends.
So, it’s certainly an extended vacation for Kareena as she is just back from a vacation with beau Shahid Kapur. And before the holiday, the couple was seen scorching the ramp at designer Manish Malhotra’s show at the Will’s Lifestyle Fashion Week in the Capital.

Kareena Kapoor will perform a sizzling number in the upcoming Bodyguard. The song, which sees Bebo don an uber-sexy avatar was added to the movie on Kareena's request, after sources say, she started having nightmares over Katrina's item number in the film stealing her glory.
Kat's item performance in the film, alongside ex Salman and his bodyguard Shera has had trade circles a buzz of late as it sees Kat and Sallu reunite on screen for the first time since their break-up. And thus, Kareena requested her filmmakers to incorporate a special song filmed on Salman and her into the movie.
Infact, so hell-bent was she on having her way that she agreed to film the song within three days despite a packed schedule. "Though Kareena's diary is choc-a-bloc, she was so keen on having the song in the film that she adjusted the dates," says the source.
The song is being pegged as a sensuous romantic number Teri Meri Prem Kahani, in which Kareena will be seen in various colourful sarees. The video has been choreographed by Vaibhavi Merchant. Manish Malhotra, arranged some beautiful chiffon sarees within no time to ensure Kareena sizzles the screen to smithereens.
Nevertheless, Bebo's insecurity seems highly unfounded as the lady's career has been going from strength to strength of late. For one she is being immortalised in a wax statue at the legendary Madame Tussauds-an honour few Bollywood stars can boast of. Secondly, she was just roped in for Madhur Bhandarkar's Heroine for a whopping Rs 10 crore! All we'd say is take it easy girl!
Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor dazzled Sunday night as she walked the ramp in noted fashion designer Manish Malhotra`s couture show as a surprise showstopper on the third-day of the ongoing Synergy1 Delhi Couture Week in the capital.
Dressed in white lehenga and heavily embroidered red backless overcoat with embellished gold work, the actress opened the designer`s bridal collection inspired from the old world charm and majestic opulence of royalty that prevailed in India during 1930-1940.
Actress Urmila Matondkar also made a rare guest appearance for Manish`s show.
The collection was an amalgamation of traditional and contemporary silhouettes with a touch of British influence.
"I have reinterpreted the 1930 and 1940s style of clothing in my designs. The collection had a flare of everything that a couture garment should have. I felt it`s the time to move away from duplication and revisit the classic style with glamorous look," said Manish Malhotra.
The women`s wear included ghagaras, lehengas, suits and saris and the colour palatte ranged from cherry reds and burgundy with tones of mint green, aqua, and off whites.
Unlike other designers, Manish was the first one to show both women`s wear and men`s wear on the ramp at the ongoing couture week.
The men`s wear collection showcased heavily embroidered shervanis in shades of black, burgundy, royal blue, beige and gold.
"I also showcased men`s wear line because I thought why to keep the bridegrooms alone. They are as conscious of their style nowadays as the brides. It`s time they also get their due importance," said Manish.
Also present in the front row was actress Sonakshi Sinha, who previously walked the ramp for Shantanu-Nikhil`s show, besides Shweta Nanda and Jas Arora.
Setting rest to all speculation, actor Saif Ali Khan admitted to having an affair with actress Kareena Kapoor.

"We are very much happy together," the Omkara actor told reporters on the sidelines of the Lakme Fashion Week attended by tha stars and which concluded in Mumbai on Wednesday.
Saif's admission came in the presence of Kareena who accompanied him to the show by fashion designer Manish Malhotra - a favourite with the industry.
Ironically, it was at the same designer's show during the Wills India Life Style Fashion Week held in New Delhi last year that Kareena walked the ramp with Shahid Kapur to reaffirm their affection.
Sony Entertainment's popular dance contest "Boogie Woogie" is back, and kicking off the inaugural episode was none other than Urmila Matondkar.
Urmila laughes pleasurably at the experience she had.
"I had so much fun on the show. I normally don't go on television," confesses Urmila who's not seen on too many talk shows unless it is for a very close friend like Manish Malhotra.
"That's precisely why I went to 'Boogie Woogie'. I'd do television for a friend. And both the hosts on 'Boogie Woogie', Javed Jaffrey and Ravi Behl, are friends. With Javed I have gone on many live concerts including my first world tour after 'Rangeela' with Shah Rukh (Khan) and Aamir (Khan). That was a truckload of fun," Urmila told IANS.
Ravi brings back fond memories.
"I did my first lead as a heroine in 'Narasimha' with Ravi. He is a fabulous dancer. And to be on a dance show with him is a delightful experience."
On "Boogie Woogie" Friday, Urmila danced to the theme from her film "Ek Hasina Thi".
"The first episode is a thriller special. And the experience was thrilling," she says.
Urmila had herself a ball interacting with the contestants.
"They are all so gifted! And so well prepared! It is easy for people to sneer and say these kids are just copying acknowledged dancers and dances. But that's easier said and done. I love dancing. Even I had my role models when I came in. Today I am flattered when I see so many newcomers copying me."

"I think the character here is basically that she is intelligent, educated. She lives in Australia and she has turmoil in her life. She is not a character that she is wearing short skirts, sexy clothes, bikini and halter tops which Vidya loves wearing. She loves exposure.
"I had to tell her no Vidya no short skirts. I had to beg her for that and she said no I want to wear these hot clothes but we said no. So we worked on the whole look according to the character and that actually is a bit tougher. Simplicity is more difficult to do than ornate stuff," said Manish Malhotra, Fashion Designer.

Tired with rumours of her breakup with beau Saif Ali Khan, Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor set the records straight by saying all is well in her love life.
"There is nothing to clarify. It`s (the rumours) not true at all. We are together," Kareena, dressed in a red knee length dress, told reporters at an event to launch the new range of Sony Vaio laptops here.
When she was probed about her marriage, she didn`t give a definite answer.
"Whenever we decide to get married, there will be an official announcement and everyone will know," said the 30-year-old.
Kareena, who was earlier dating Shahid Kapoor, is in a relationship with Saif since 2007. It was reported that the two got close during the shooting of their film ‘Tashan.’
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is tired of people calling her ‘Ash’. And is grateful to hubby Abhishek Bachchan for finally stepping in and making that clear. “I’ve been trying to get rid of that nickname for years,” she says. “It’s so sweet of Abhishek to step in.” He had reportedly asked certain sections of the media to stop referring to the actor as ‘Ash’.

If you just see the number of SMSes and pings that Manish and I have exchanged over the years about walking for him, you will know that this was really the only opportunity that would have worked out.” At this point, Manish himself chimes in, saying, “And since I work with her so often, it’s easy for me to keep nagging her. We’ve tried so much to make it happen, and finally, this time we succeeded.”
Recalling the last time she showed off her catwalk skills, Aishwarya says, “Since I stopped active modelling, I’ve only walked the ramp for brands I endorse. The last time I remember being in a fashion show was for Shahab Durazi many years ago. But I kept saying that everything feels the same. The chaos backstage, models getting dressed and taking their positions… nothing’s changed.”
While she insists that she wasn’t nervous before taking to the ramp, she is thankful for the moral support. “My mother (Vrinda Rai), husband and mother-in-law (Jaya Bachchan) were all there to support me, so I had to show them my love,” she grins.
Explaining why Abhishek was in the front row instead of being by her side, she says, “We’re both actors and that is our biggest responsibility. Abhishek was busy shooting and we couldn’t take a chance of him being caught up with work and delaying the show. That wouldn’t be fair.”
Considering October 9 will feature a certain Salman Khan’s charity show, Being Human, and have actors like Kareena Kapoor and Katrina Kaif walking the ramp, would Aishwarya consider lending her support? “I will be out of town,” she responds tersely. “Karan (Johar) and Shahab had both asked me to walk for them, but I had to decline. Manish was the only one I was able to make time for.”

Kareena continues to give hell to Madhur Bhandarkar

Kareena Kapoor seems to have some fairy godmother looking out for her. The actress, who continues to act pricey with talented taskmaster Madhur Bhandarkar, is still among his favourites.
And despite all of Bebo’s tantrums and starry ways, Madhur continues to be hopeful of casting the beauty in his upcoming flick ‘Heroine’ that is a biopic on Maryln Monroe’s life.
Believe it or not, but Kareena continues to give hell to Bhandarkar who has been chasing the actress for months now. The filmmaker has been in talks with the lass to star in his forthcoming film Heronie. However, even though Kareena gave her final nod to the project, she has been dodging Bhandarkar.
Talking about Kareena, Bhandarkar told a news daily, “Kareena and I have not been in touch. She has been very busy with RA.One and Agent Vinod. But we are going to meet soon.”
And this is not the first time that the director has been met with such a callous attitude by Kareena, In the past too, Bebo had refused Bhandarkar by turning down his films ‘Fashion’ and ‘Page 3’.
“I think Kareena is a remarkable actress with a great screen presence. From the minute I saw her in Refugee, I knew she will go a long way. I think I will be third time lucky. She deserves a lot more from this industry. I believe that Heroine will give that to her, it’s a dream role for any actress,” says Madhur.
Kareena Kapoor and Helen stole the show at 13th Annual Star Screen Awards when they jived together to the song Yeh Mera Dil from ‘Don’.
About twenty-eight years ago, the gorgeous Helen throbbed to the pulsating number, seducing Amitabh Bachchan in Chandra Barot’s movie Don (1978) . And just a few months back, we saw Kareena doing the same to Shah Rukh Khan in Farhan Akhar’s modern version Don .
At the Screen Awards in Mumbai on Saturday night, the past met the present when Helen made a surprise appearance in the dance performance by Kareena to ‘Yeh Mera Dil’.
Dressed in the same sexy golden dress from the movie, Kareena was in her elements as she shook her booty to the remixed version by Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy.
But what exhilarated the crowd was Helen’s entry on stage after few minutes. Dressed in a resplendent black outfit, Helen matched every step with Kareena with youthful exuberance and left the crowd on their feet by the end of the song.
There was a huge applause and everyone appreciated Helen’s jive with Kareena.
Helen later also gave away an award during the function.
Imtiaz Ali brings Kashmiri wedding rituals on screen

New Delhi, Oct 15 (IANS) After showcasing Punjabi wedding celebrations in his films "Jab We Met" and "Love Aaj Kal", filmmaker Imtiaz Ali has shifted his camera's focus to Kashmiri Pandit wedding rituals for his forthcoming release "Rockstar".
The director, who wanted to keep the movie's screenplay as authentic as possible, shot the scene featuring a Kashmiri Pandit wedding complete with all its rituals and traditions after a lot of research, a statement said Saturday.
Ali had asked the movie's line producer to allow him meet a Kashmiri Pandit family. He visited the family, whose house was located in a small Hindu settlement in Srinagar, and sat with them to understand the nitty-gritties of their weddings.
From the way food is served in the tram (copper plates) to the traditional Dejhor which is Kashmiri jewellery worn in the ears (symbol of a married woman) along with the shaneel fyran (velvet dress/outfit), the intricate henna patterns and the tarang (cap) that the girl wears during the wedding rituals - Ali took care to research it all.
Imtiaz and the team also walked to Srinagar's popular Kheer Bhawani temple, met the priest and watched his daughter's wedding video to have a visual understanding of the rituals.
Even for the bridal dress, designers Manish Malhotra and Aki Narula roamed around the streets for hours to get the perfect traditional attire.
To add more authenticity to the shoot, the locals who were part of the scene were given full freedom to inform the filmmaker if anything was amiss.
Starring Ranbir Kapoor and newcomer Nargis Fakhri, "Rockstar" will release Nov 11. It is co-produced by Shree Ashtavinayak Cinevision and Eros International.
A major part of the film's shooting has taken place at locations in Kashmir.
Kareena Kapoor continues to make news. At times, the actress' relationship with Saif Ali Khan is discussed. At times, her marriage. At times, HEROINE and her remuneration. The latest is, Kareena is getting married to Saif in 2012. "I have stopped reacting to rumors," Kareena informs me, "Of course, marriage will happen, but both Saif and I are busy with our respective careers. We haven't fixed a date yet."
The conversation steers to the two projects she's reportedly signed -- Madhur Bhandarkar's HEROINE and Ekta Kapoor/Milan Luthria's ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAAI 2. "Well, I have agreed in principle to do HEROINE, but I haven't signed on the dotted line yet. The formalities are yet to be completed. 'Heroine' will be a landmark in Kareena's career: Bhandarkar

Mumbai, Nov 16 (IANS) Madhur Bhandarkar's ambitious project "Heroine" is back on track with Kareena Kapoor stepping into the shoes of actress Aishwarya Rai as the lead actress and the filmmaker says the movie will be a landmark movie in Bebo's career.
"She (Kareena) is a great star. We have always talked about working together and even discussed a lot of films but nothing materialized. But 'Heroine' is a great script and a great story. I am sure it will be a landmark cinema in Kareena's career," said Bhandarkar at the red carpet of Airtel Super Star Awards.
Bhandarkar's film hit a roadblock after Aishwarya opted out of the project following her pregnancy. Ash gave birth to a baby girl Wednesday.
The filmmaker hopes the film doesn't get into any other problem.
"'Heroine' is basically a journey in a heroine's life in the contemporary world. It's going to portray how an actress reaches the top and how her life goes through ups and downs. There are lot of catharsis and traumas shown in the film," said Bhandarkar, known for making films like "Page 3", "Fashion" and "Traffic Signal."
"Right now, the film is on track and shooting will start November end and we will finish by March-April. Hope you all like it," he added.
It would be destination Sivaji beginning 31 May. The much-awaited film which has created a lot of hype and expectations is releasing on 31 May with maximum number of prints. The movie has been the talk of the town what with the biggest marquee names in Kollywood (Rajini, Shankar, A R Rahman), and some of most talented technicians like cameraman K V Anand, editor Anthony, art director Thotta Tharani, writer Sujatha, choreographers Raju Sundaram, Larencce and Brinda, and costume designer Manish Malhotra have figuring in it
The movie which is Rajinikanth's 168th movie is interestingly his 100th straight film in Tamil. With AVM too pulling out all stops to make the movie fit the image of Rajini and the imagination of Shankar, the expectations are at an amazing high.

With a team of talented choreographers in Prabhu Deva, Raju Sundaram, Larencce Raghavendra and Brinda coming together, no doubt the choreography in Sivaji would be hip-shaking and eye-catching. Veterans Vaali (Adhiradikaran) and Vairamuthu (Vaji Vaji) along with a young brigade comprising Na Muthukumar (Ballelaka), Pa Vijay (Style), have come up with catchy lyrics that is set to scintillating tunes by Rahman. The songs are already a craze among music-buffs and are repeatedly aired in several FM Radio Stations.
Rahman has composed the background score in Chennai, London and Cheq Republic. Designer Manish Malhotra, who has worked his magic on such Bollywood beauties like Karishma Kapoor, Rani Mukherjee and Kajol, was roped in to work his undoubted skill on Rajinikanth. His effort seems to have paid of. For, going by the stills released to the press, Rajini looks at his smartest best.
Shriya plays Rajini's heroine. On being part of a Rajinikanth film, Shriya says, “It was project which had all the big names in Tamil film industry. When Shankar offered me the role, I immediately grabbed it with both hands since I am a great fan of Rajinikanth”.

Annually, the magazine honours style icons with the Best Dressed edition. This year, Priyanka has featured on the cover of its India edition.
About being chosen as the face of People's special issue of India's Best Dressed for 2011, Priyanka said: "I'm excited because I never thought I would get this title."
Talking of the one style accessory she has at all times, she said: "I wear confidence."
The former Miss World will walk the ramp for Manish Malhotra at the Mercedes-Benz Best Dressed Show 2011 in Mumbai Saturday evening, in a celebration of the special issue of the magazine.
She will wear an Indo-Western creation.
"The Best Dressed show marks the coming together of the entertainment industry's most stylish people on one platform. My collection for the evening is my signature style of opulent glamorous Indian wear," Malhotra said in a statement.
Nayantara, we guess is a lucky charm for Rajnikanth? She was Rajni’s heroine in Chandramukhi, which sky rocketed her to superstardom. And when Shankar decided to have a top actress to do the introductory song with the superstar, he went ahead and signed Nayan.
Remember that any top actress or item number girl in Bollywood would have given their right hand to do the song, and Shankar never repeats a pair who has featured in some other film. He went ahead and did it because the whole song is supposed to evoke nostalgia, and the audiences are getting their first glimpse of the hero in a song.
There is a Nayan craze in Tamilnadu and Andhra, which is sure to make the song popular with the masses. The song Balelakka… was shot in Wai near Pune with hundreds of Theyyam and puli dancers from Kerala.
