New Delhi, Nov 17 (IANS) Czech Pakistani model Nargis Fakhri, who has just made her Bollywood debut with "Rockstar", has been named the brand ambassador for apparel major Van Heusen Woman.
The 32-year-old has been a New York-based supermodel, and choosing her as the face of the brand has been a careful decision by the company.
"The brand is on the cusp of a steep growth and is well poised to extend its appeal to a large western-wear sporting audience, while Nargis's career is set to take off equally well. The elegance and confidence she brings to the table is highly desirable and aspirational for today's women," a Van Heusen statement said.
"The brand offers clothes that are in vogue, comfortable and refreshing - while always being faithful to its core philosophy of clean lines, traditional soft and solid pastel tones, with shapes and forms that breathe easy. And Nargis Fakhri blends closely with this chic factor of the brand with her refined beauty and flawless style. The spirited personality and ÂÂÂÂimpeccable charm she exudes thoroughly reflect the brand's values," the statement added.
In her first campaign for the brand, Nargis will feature in a range of dresses for the autumn-winter season.
Surprisingly, the B-town Casanova Ranbir Kapoor, who used to be in news for his love affairs, this time is grabbing the headlines for being dumped by his so-called hottest girlfriend Nargis Fakhri.
Rumors mills are doing the rounds that the Czech–Pakistani bombshell Nargis Fakhri, whom the ‘Rockstar’ hero Ranbir Kapoor had been dating for some time now, is these days spotted spending quality time with model Shayan Munshi.
It seems the hottie has lost interest in RK Junior, who had parted ways with his former girlfriend Katrina Kaif for her. Well now, Nargis’s new muse is the ‘Jhankaar Beats’ actor Shayan Munshi.
Apparently, ditch and get ditched has become the new trend in the tinsel town.
Ranbir becomes Nargis’ Hindi tutor While Nargis broke Ranbir’s heart and moved on with Shayan Munshi, Ranbir is still concerned about the ‘Rockstar’ heroine’s career in Bollywood.
Scuttlebutt has it that besides filmmaker Imtiaz Ali, Ranbir has also shouldered the responsibility of teaching Hindi to Nargis, as the babelicious babe is a foreigner and lacks knowledge about the language.
Well, by now Ranbir must have mastered the art of teaching Hindi to foreigners, as his ex-flame Katrina was also a foreigner.
Hearthrob Ranbir Kapoor had the fright of his life when he had to shoot a bike sequence with newbie Nargis Fakhri for Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision and Eros International's ‘Rockstar’. Because he was required to ride pillion with Nargis who had just learnt riding a bike barely half an hour ago!
Apparently, Director Imtiaz wanted to shoot a sequence involving Nargis riding a bike with Ranbir sitting behind. Since Nargis had never ridden one, Imtiaz asked his team to teach Nargis.
To everyone’s surprise, after just half an hour of practice, Nargis claimed that she could manage riding and was ready for the shot. Ranbir however, expressed his concern, wondering how Nargis could learn riding a bike in just 30 minutes! But the crew members all backed Nargis and said that she had indeed picked up really fast and was ready to shoot. That’s when poor Ranbir started praying for his life!
Everyone present couldn’t help but chuckle at Ranbir’s obvious reluctance. However, once the shoot commenced, Ranbir realized that Nargis was indeed a fast learner and was handling the bike quite comfortably. That’s when he relaxed and eventually enjoyed his short spin with Nargis!

New Delhi, Oct 21 (IANS) Ranbir Kapoor planned a special birthday surprise for his "Rockstar" co-star Nargis Fakhri up in the air when the duo was flying to Nagpur for the promotion of their movie.
Ranbir, Nargis, singer Mohit Chauhan and producer Hiren Gandhi were on board the charter flight when Ranbir brought out a cake for the lady Thursday.
The actor had pre-ordered a Ferrero Rocher chocolate cake from one of Mumbai's premium bakeries and quietly got it onto the flight without Nargis's knowledge, said a source.
While Nargis was sitting on her seat unaware, one of her staff members took her outside the cabin on some pretext. When she got back, the entire team yelled "Surprise", and presented the cake to her.
The team sang "Happy Birthday" for her, while an overwhelmed and emotional Nargis cut the cake.
The debutante, who turned 32 Thursday, fed the cake to Ranbir and others.
All of them partied on board the flight listening to "Rockstar" songs, which have become a rage.
"Rockstar", directed by Imtiaz Ali, is produced by Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision Ltd and Eros International. It will release Nov 11.

Here is a film made on the life of a rockstar whose tryst with destiny does not touch your heart.
In a grey dull European city, we aren't sure if the frizzy haired, Indo-Persian dressed Rockstar (Ranbir Kapoor) is detained or mugged while he fight backs his detractors to reach the venue to deliver an electrifying performance.
In fact, Imtiaz Ali's "Rockstar" is a love story of Janardhan Jakhar (Ranbir Kapoor) and Heer (Nargis Fakhri). Janardhan is a naïve Haryanvi college going buffoon. He is rustic with no confidence in his own talent, but cherishes the dream of becoming a rockstar. With a hairdo and clothes that resemble the fashion of the early 1970s, Janardhan, or JJ as he calls himself, is constantly trying to ape rockstar Jim Morrison and is constantly seeking a formula to become one.
His confidants, college mates and college canteen owner Kattara Bhai tell him that to be a rockstar one needs to experience life altering love, heartbreak and self discovery. And his mind ticks till he spots Heer (Nargis Fakhri).
Heer is the diva of the college, poised and polished very lady like. Their union seems unfeasible. After a few scenes, we learn that she is to be married off within 20 days and wants to experience all that is forbidden.
The duo makes a list and experience life without emotions for each other. In due course, JJ is christened Jordan, which seems to be an apt name for a rockstar.
As the mystery unfolds over layers of flashbacks, it takes the story to a designated plateau and halts.
At stages, you feel you are watching a documentary, full of montages of memories lined up over good music. Be it Sufi music or the shehnai-guitar jugalbandi, A.R. Rahman's music touches your heart.
Performances are superb. Nargis is a sure threat to Katrina Kaif. Shammi Kapoor sharing screen space with Ranbir touches a raw nerve. Over all, Ranbir carries away accolades for his histronics.
Coming from a director who has given wonderful hits like "Jab We Met" and "Love Aaj Kal", "Rockstar" is a disappointment. It's evident that there is something amiss with the characterisation of this love story.
During the entire transition it is not revealed how Jordan becomes a symbol of rage nor does it reveal the 'junoon' of Nargis' character.
With some beautiful wide angle shots, the film captures scenic Kashmir, Prague and Delhi in a way that has not been seen in the recent past. The editing too is crisp but the last half hour is agonisingly similar to Shahid Kapoor's "Mausam". It just goes on and on.
The dialogues are refreshingly rustic and funny. An extra star in the rating for Ranbir's performance.

2011/10/17 6:09:23 Tata Group Chairman Ratan Tata has been honoured with the Swiss Ambassador's award for "exceptional leadership" and his contribution to strengthening bilateral ties between India and Switzerland.
"I owe it to my colleagues who made whatever has happened in Tata Group happen," Ratan Tata said after receiving the award here Sunday night.
Tata said he had followed the business models of his ancestors and whatever he was able to do within the group was mainly because of the exceptionally talented people around him.
"I merely travelled the same journey that my ancestors did and it was, I thought, the right thing at the right moment, whenever it happened," he said.
Tata said the late Steve Jobs, co-founder of Apple Inc, was an exceptional leader who, despite not consciously trying to be a leader, made a difference to the lives of millions of people by doing what he believed was right.
Switzerland's Ambassador to India Philippe Welti conferred the award to Tata at a ceremony at the Swiss embassy here.
The first Swiss Ambassador's award, founded in 2010, was conferred on film-maker Yash Chopra for his contribution to strengthening Indo-Swiss people-to-people relations through his movies.
Welti said Tata was honoured with the award for his exceptional leadership and his contribution to strengthening ties between the two countries. He said Tata was not just an Indian but a global business leader.
The ambassador said Ratan Tata had transformed Tata Group into a global conglomerate while retaining its strong roots in the group's traditions and ethics.
Ratan Tata became chairman of Tata Sons in 1991.
Welti pointed out that under the chairmanship of Ratan Tata, the group had acquired several international brands like Land Rover, Jaguar, Tetley and Corus.
"Among Switzerland's strongest economic pillars are its outward foreign direct investments in India and elsewhere. India's move in the opposite direction seems to have started with Tata Group in Switzerland. This is one of the reasons for the award," Welti said. (IANS)

When Kishwar Desai's biography on the love story of star couple Nargis and Sunil Dutt titled 'Darlingji' was being released, veteran actor Shammi was lost in her thoughts remembering the couple, since she was closest to them being a confidant of Nargis.
Her most vivid memories about the couple was regarding an incident on a 'Karvachauth' - the day when married women (mostly from north India) fast from dawn to dusk till moon is sighted and pray for their husbands' long life.
"Today being also 'Karvachauth', mind drifted back to a memorable incident we (Shammi, Nargis and Sunil Dutt) had in Kashmir. We were visiting army units posted in the border areas for entertaining them," Shammi said on Monday night.
"Nargis and me were fasting for our husbands. Hunger pangs were troubling us. Seeing others sip tea and munch snacks our desperation grew further. Meanwhile, the moon could not be sighted due to misty conditions," she said.
"Unable to bear our condition, Sunil Dutt immediately asked a senior officer to call up another nearby unit to enquire whether moon was sighted. Luckily the reply was positive and an elated Duttsaab came running towards us breaking this news and ensured we broke our fast," Shammi said
This was the relation the couple shared, she said.
Noida, Sep 20 (IANS) Actor Ranbir Kapoor, who got a chance to act with late Shammi Kapoor in "Rockstar", says his grand uncle has left a lot of love and happiness behind.
"I really miss Shammi-ji. He was a boon to our film. It is only love that he has left us with. He left so much happiness behind. I do miss him," Ranbir told reporters here Tuesday.
The actor was here to unveil the poster of his upcoming film "Rockstar". He was accompanied by director Imtiaz Ali.
Shammi Kapoor, known as the dancing star of the 1950s and 1960s, revolutionised the image of Hindi film heroes with his carefree attitude and flamboyance. The legendary actor, who breathed his last Aug 14, is said to have a short but prominent role in "Rockstar".
The film, slated for a Nov 11 release, is about a young super-successful musician, and his tryst with love. The film also stars debutant Nargis Fakhri as Ranbir's love interest.
Ranbir upset with media reports on his relationship status
2011/4/13 5:45:03
Expressing displeasure over reports of his link-ups with several actresses, Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor on Monday urged the media to stop commenting about his relationship status.
"If I am into a relationship I will not hide it. If I have a girlfriend I will call you and tell you that I am in love and that I am marrying her. Everyday I read stories on my link-up with some or the other star. I feel bad," Ranbir told reporters here.
"I am sure my parents also get embarrassed by it. Also, I don''t find the need to come out and contradict every wrong story about me. One has to understand that a person or a life is getting affected.
"I don''t go out with friends to have dinner with the fear of getting linked up with someone. My life has become difficult. I request all of you to not link-me with anyone. I hope it stops now," he added.
Ranbir, who was appointed as the brand ambassador for Panasonic, has been in news for his link-ups with several actresses including Katrina Kaif, Nargis Fakhri, Sonam Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, and Anushka Sharma. In the past, the actor dated Deepika Padukone but they broke up in 2009.
2007/4/2 9:24:26 The state government on Saturday took back a part of the land allotted to superstar Krishna for setting up Padmalaya studios. The move came after Krishna failed to give a satisfactory reply to the government notice on the sale of land against the rules.
Padmalaya studios reportedly sold the land to the Zee films corporation against the rules. Revenu officials took back about 5 acres and have put up a sign stating it as government land. The land is reportedly worth about 180 crores. The state government gave the land at a subsidized rate in 1983 to set up a film studio.
Ranbir Kapoor starrer Rockstar has been in the news for weeks now. Surely one of the most highly anticipated films of this year, the film which is being produced by Eros International and Shree Asthavinayak has run into troubled waters. Reportedly, the two banners involved with the film are having issues over finances of the film.
The case so far is that Shree Asthavinayak has issued a legal notice against Eros citing that Eros has not honoured their financial commitments made for the project. The film which stars Ranbir Kapoor and new comer Nargis Fakhri is being directed by Imtiaz Ali.
The terms and conditions of the agreement between Eros and Asthavinayak were that Eros was supposed to pay Rs. 52 crore for Rockstar, of which during the process of shooting Eros was to pay Rs. 26 crore, while the signing amount was Rs. 6 crore. The balance amount was supposed to be paid on delivery.
While Eros maintains that they have followed the contract as per schedule in terms of payment, they cite reasons that Ashtavinayak is trying to sell the film to another buyer for the film.
Mumbai, Oct 20 (IANS) Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor says the title of his upcoming film "Rockstar" may suggest that it is a story of a grungy young boy, but this isn't so.
"The title 'Rockstar' can sometimes go against us because when people hear Rockstar, they feel the film will have this guy who will wear a leather jacket, will break the guitar, will create a mess on the stage. Actually the film is about a character, a Jat boy, and whatever happens in his life, he tells the world about it through his songs," Ranbir told reporters.
The actor has strummed the guitar, indulged in head banging, and rocked the stage for the movie, set for release Nov 11. In the movie, Ranbir plays the role of Janardhan or Jordan, an aspiring singer, who goes on to be a popular rockstar.
Ranbir went out of his way to learn how to play the guitar for the film.
"I had no idea how to play the guitar and neither can I sing. But since the character was that of a musician, I felt it was important to learn how to play the guitar because when I would perform on the stage before a large audiences, they would feel truth behind it," he said.
"Rockstar", directed by Imtiaz Ali, marks the debut of model Nargis Fakhri.
