Suriya excited for '7am Arivu' success

(IANS) Tamil star Suriya is one happy man these days as his latest release "7aam Arivu" has done good business and the actor says the film is a bigger grosser than "Singham".

"Singham was my biggest commercial hit but '7am Arivu' has collected that amount in the first 10 days itself," said the actor adding that, "People across the world has seen it and responded overwhelmingly."

"Theatre owners told me that there were segments of audience who returned to theatres after many years, just to see the film," he said.

Talking about mixed reactions to the film he said that he had faith in the director's concept. Apparently, Rajinikanth saw the film and complimented him on his hard work and asked him to keep it up.

During the making of the movie, Suriya gave his inputs and said: "I did say what I felt at various points and they took suggestions, which were feasible."

Talking about the portions that had been censored in Sri Lanka, the actor said: "The censor boards in different countries have different rules and everyone has to abide by it."

He also said that his father, who usually does not comment on his films, told him, "This is the first time you have done something like this."

In "7am Arivu", he romanced Shruti Haasan, daughter of Kamal Haasan, and he joked that he was scared of her only for the first three days.

"It was like watching Kamal sir coming at first, but I soon got over it."

The actor is currently busy with K.V. Anand's "Maatran" and said that his character will be unique something never seen before.

    Won't care about Gossips: Shruthi

2011/10/29 3:23:33 "Normally, I don't take the gossips serious because I have joined the industry only after knowing about all those silly things. But, even if I ever feel they are damaging my reputation or family bonds, I won't spare such gossips. I very well know how to handle such gossipmongers," said Shruthi Hassan will full confidence.

Speaking about her latest film '7 am Arivu,' (Tamil version of 7th Sense) "In fact, I am bit nervous while doing that film, because so far I have not played lead role in any of Tamil movies. I am happy that Tamilians have liked my performance and appreciating me, said Shruthi Hassan.

    Bollywood on remake-mania

2011/9/13 1:06:49 Salman Khan can be termed as Jr. Jitendar in Bollywood, who makes easy money with remakes. Once upon a time, Bollywood hero Jitendar also successfully adopted the same formula and remade many Telugu movies of super star Krishna's into Hindi with Sridevi and Jayaprada as his heroines.

Now, Salman Khan also becomes a remake specialist in Bollywood. His latest remake film 'Body-Guard' has collected more than Rs.100 crores in no time and still running successfully. His 'Wanted' movie which is a remake of prince Mahesh babu's 'Pokiri' movie and his present 'Body-Guard' a remake of Malayalam movie with same title virtually gave second life to his dull career. When, there are sure-hit-movies readily available down the south, then why anyone should take pains searching for stories? So, Salman also adopts this remake formula and enjoying the success. He is now eyeing Ram's Kandireega movie and Mahesh babu's forthcoming movie 'Dookudu.' Bellamkonda Suresh, the producer of 'Kandireega' movie has confirmed Salman's manager contacting him for the remake rights.

According to latest reports, the creative actor and director Amir Khan also said to be showing interest on Suriya and Shruthi Hassan's upcoming Tamil Movie '7am Arivu,' which is a scientific thriller, directed by Murugadas. Amir Khan, who successfully remade the Tamil movie 'Gajini' into Hindi, thinks that '7am Arivu' would be the right choice for a remake.

The remake of 'Yamudu' movie into Hindi as 'Singham' by Ajay Devagan was also proved a big hit and thus boosts the career graph of the hero. He also now keeps an eye on south Indian movies.

Ultimately, this new development makes the south Indian film makers quite happy, as their market is now expanded without their efforts. However, this cycle will continues for a certain time period until the Hindi belt rejects it.

Suriya gives his side of the story

    2007/5/28 4:33:26

Following a complaint filed by producer Oscar Ravichandran that Suriya has given step-motherly treatment to Varanam Aayiram and has commenced shooting for his next Vel leaving Varanam Aayiram midway.

Negotiations are on at the Producers Council to sort out the issue between Suriya and Ravichandran. However Suriya has denied the charges and said Varanam Aayiram is his dream project.

"I am greatly engrossed with the project. After discussions with the director (Gowtham Menon), I chose to do Vel. Varanam Aayiram has an interesting storyline and it needs time to complete the movie. It would be a movie to cherish in my career. It would take time to arrive at a good product. After Khaakha Khaakha, I am joining hands with Gowtham again. Hence expectations among the audience has increased manifold. We have to live up to it", he says and adds, "I will not leave the project at any cost".

Salman and SRK at war over Murugadoss

    2011/6/16 5:07:30

Post the super duper success of Aamir Khan starrer ‘Ghajini’, South Indian director AR Murugadoss became an overnight sensation in Bollywood. Buzz has it that industry bigwigs Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan are more than keen to have the filmmaker on board for their respective projects.

Apparently, SRK was supposed to be working with Murugadoss but the project fizzled out for reasons unknown. And if the news doing rounds is to be believed, then we may soon see Sallu teaming up with the successful director.

Talking to a daily, a source revealed, “If talks fructify, Murugadoss may do a film with Salman in 2012. At the moment, the ‘Ghajini’ director is under contract with a leading foreign studio for their next film. However, as soon he wraps that up, he may look at doing a film with Salman.``

But King Khan seems to have discussions with Murugadoss and the duo might soon start working on their project, much before the flamboyant Khan.

“Murugadoss had a couple of meetings with SRK when he was busy with production work on his current Tamil film, ‘7am Arivu’. He is likely to sign that film once he completes work on the Suriya starrer. As far as Salman is concerned, the director has not yet met him and the project will take quite some time to shape up,” the source added.

Looks like the Khan versus Khan battle will never cease to exist!

    Weddings and baby-boom

2006/11/25 6:22:42 Kollywood has had an exciting 2 years, with many stars and rising stars and offbeat celebrities celebrating momentous occasions in their lives. Let's look at what's been happening to some people we love to love, in the Tamil film industry, in the last 2 years or so:

Dhanush married Superstar Rajinikant's daughter Aishwarya in November 2004 - they're a very happy couple now and were blessed with a son just some months ago, name Yathra. Dhanush and diamonds seem forever in Aishwarya's life with Dhanush! And of course, Dhanush, like all doting fathers and loving husbands has been racking his mind for the name of the baby (a difficult job since no one knew if it was a boy or a girl!) since Aishwarya was just a few months pregnant - we at Galatta.com have had hours-long coffee sessions with the actor to brainstorm on the perfect name!

Handsome Madhavan is just getting handsomer everyday - could it be because of his beautiful blue-eyed boy Vedaant? One can only guess, but Madhavan's career has literally shot through the skies after the birth of the little boy in August 2005.

Suriya and Jyotika's fairytale romance bloomed into a life-long partnership after their wedding in September this year. Suriya and Jyotika have been dating for a long time, although they have tried their best to keep it all a secret. Both of them looked resplendent in their finery at their wedding at the Park Sheraton hotel in Chennai. Although the occasion itself was marred by comments from the hurt and upset press, who AFTER being invited for the wedding by Suriya's father, veteran actor R. Sivakumar, they were asked NOT attend, at the last minute!

To show that the press is indeed close to their hearts, Suriya and Jyotika hosted a luncheon for them the next day at the Residency Towers hotel in Chennai. Suriya has subsequently signed up with Gautham Menon for his next film Vaaranamaayiram and Jyotika can be seen completing her former commitments, including Gautham Menon's Sarath Kumar starrer, Pachaikili Muthucharam.

Director Bharathiraja's son Manoj has already joined the list of married celebrities. Actor Vijaykumar's son Arun Kumar too is soon to join the flock of married celebrities

Gautham Menon and wife Preeti had their 2nd son (who is going to have a beautiful name, from what we have heard) 10 days ago and Harris Jayaraj became daddy to a darling little girl, Karen Nikita, just a few weeks ago.

Well, it seems that the industry is busy, busy, between films and family life!

2011/9/28 11:07:09 After playing intense roles in "Dhobi Ghat" and "Dum Maaro Dum", Prateik is trying his luck in comedy with "My Friend Pinto" and says he is quite excited about his first attempt in the genre.

"It's my first attempt at comedy. I am very excited and I hope, I pull it off. I am playing Michael Pinto, a sweet and innocent boy who remains a little lost," Prateik said at an event.

The 24-year-old forayed into Bollywood with Aamir Khan's "Jaane Tu...Ya Jaane Na" and everyone loved him in it. Last seen in Prakash Jha's "Aarakshan", "My Friend Pinto" is his first solo lead film.

"Both ways there is an advantage. If I pull it off, it's a good film, if not then I am making a fool of myself and people are going to laugh anyway. So I am very excited," Prateik said jokingly.

    Vijay and Pawan, akin?

    2008/4/29 5:22:28

There seems to be a lot of similarity running between Vijay, the hero of Kollywood and Pawan Kalyan the power star of Tollywood. If you are wondering whether we are talking about their looks you are mistaken.

We are scanning some of the films they have done in Tamil and Telugu respectively. If Vijay has acted in the Tamil version of 'Kushi', it was Pawan who had done the honors in Telugu. If there was a 'Bhadri' starring Vijay in Tamil there was the Telugu version too that had Pawan doing the lead role.

Now there are reports doing the rounds that Pawan Kalyan will be starring in a film titled 'Puli' that might have Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor playing the lead lady. The film will be directed by none other than S.J. Suriya.

Actually S.J, Suriya had created 'Puli' having Vijay in mind, but for some reason the Tamil version did not kick off so there are talks doing the rounds that the director is planning to make the film first in Telugu.

We are not sure if there will be a later version in Telugu but anticipation is running wild among some in the Kollywood industry – because of the similarity in the roles played by Vijay and Pawan – if the film might soon be remade in Tamil too.

'Isai Puyal' A.R. Rahman will be composing music for this film.

'Puli' in Telugu will be produced by Singanamala Ramesh and rumors are running wild that choreographers from Hollywood will be putting the stunt sequences together. Bollywood cinematographer Binod Pradhans will be handing the camera for 'Puli'.
