K Chandrasekhar Rao angry over Polavaram issue:TDP

Telugu Desam Telangana Forum convenor Errabelli Dayakar Rao on Saturday accused Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrasekhar Rao of using un-parliamentary language against his political opponents.

Addressing a press conference at NTR Trust Bhavan, Errabelli alleged that KCR was angry due to the cancellation of Polavaram Project tenders. He said the TRS leader has suffered a loss due to the cancellation of tenders and therefore, he is indirectly expressing his anger by making provocative statements against TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu.

Errabelli alleged that KCR and his family members have earned crores of rupees due to Sakala Janula Samme, the general strike demanding separate Telangana. The 42-day long strike was withdrawn after a deal was struck on Polavaram tenders, he alleged. Since the TDP has exposed the deal leading to its cancellation, KCR has started targeting TDP leaders in his daily briefing to media, he said.

The TDP leader said that he was ready for an open debate to prove his allegations. (INN)

TRS and TDP gaming on Polavaram

2011/10/26 10:07:46 The Telangana Rashtra Samithi on Wednesday condemned Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu for writing a letter to the State Government demanding immediate completion of the Polavaram project.

Talking to reporters, TRS spokesperson Jagadishwar Reddy said that the despite knowing the fact that the people in the region were against the construction of Polavaram project, Naidu has been making statements supporting the multi-purpose project. He challenged the TDP leaders from the region to go to the public on the same issue.

Jagadishwar Reddy said the Polavaram project would submerge hundreds of villages and displace lakhs of people in the region, especially in Khammam district. Therefore, the TRS has already expressed its opposition for the project. He also ridiculed the allegations being levelled against TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao by the TDP leaders with regard to the allotment of tenders for the Polavaram project.

Asking the TDP leaders from the region not to act as pawns into the hands of Chandrababu Naidu, the TRS spokesperson asked them to clear their own stand on the Polavaram project.

Jagadishwar Reddy demanded that the Telangana ministers should boycott the AP Formation Day celebrations on November 1. He warned them of dire consequences and said that their participation would ensure the end of their political careers. (INN)

TDP seeks CM's explanation on Polavaram

2011/10/28 10:17:27 Telugu Desam Party on Friday alleged that Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy had awarded Polavaram contract to the SEW Infra company even though it was rejected by a technical committee of the Chief Engineers.

Talking to media persons, TDP MLAs Tummala Nageswar Rao and A Raventh Reddy stated that the TDP would raise the issue in the State Government in the Assembly over the awarding of the Polavaram tenders to an unqualified and inexperienced company.

The TDP leaders sought an explanation from the Chief Minister on Polavaram tenders. They also alleged that the Telangana Rashtra Samithi leaders used their proximity with Governor ESL Narasimhan to bag the Polavaram contract. They charged that the TRS has used the Telangana agitation as a tool for commercial gains. (INN)

    TDP-TRS blame-game on

2011/10/29 3:27:44 The face- off between TDP and TRS has reached its crescendo with leaders of the two parties going personal and the Telangana patriarch threatening to sue for damages and left no room to end the slanging match of blame game.

Reacting sharply to TDP allegations, K Chandrasekhar Rao launched a diatribe against his former boss N Chandrababu Naidu and questioned his integrity and style of functioning even as Naidu plans to go on a Telangana tour in the backdrop of Polavaram tenders.

Though Chandrasekhar Rao gave a blow by blow reply to all the allegations levelled by TDP, he was a shade late and a bit short to take the bull by its horns. TDP on the other hand skirted the main issue and resorted to mud-slinging and with the presidents of both the parties crossing swords at a time when more important issues are to be resolved, it remains to be seen what could be the outcome on Telangana.

With the two parties not in a position to decide on the Telangana issue, Congress, which holds all the aces at present remains untouched and it has its own approach to the problem.

The allegation that TRS joined hands with Congress to scale down the Telangana agitation and could get the Polavaram tenders to its nominee had many buyers but the credentials of TDP were constantly questionable. Cashing on it, TRS made most of the situation by accusing TDP of double standards and lack of clear stand on Telangana while TDP upped its ante saying it was a sell out as the Polavaram contract was given to a person and his associates who invested in a pro- Telangana newspaper.

After the allegations and counter allegations flew from one side to the other, maintaining the tempo, Chandrababu Naidu entered the scene calling Chandrasekhar Rao names like Vasul Raja (Collection King) the later came out with all his valour and armoury. Going personal, he questioned the financial status of Naidu and how he has been able to run his party from the two acres of land he owns.

However, he skipped the main issue of Polavaram bids and brushed it aside saying that if an investor in a pro Telangana paper has his own business interests elsewhere, TRS is in no way concerned with it. The investor is a protagonist of Telangana and that’s what matters. He also accounted for his own investment of Rs 4 crore in the newspaper and Rs 50 lakh in the TV Channel but did not at any point answer the moral question on Polavaram.

Dichotomy comes into play when TRS, which opposes the project in its present design, brushes aside the moral question of the protagonists of Telangana getting the Polavaram contract along with others. Both TDP and TRS seem to have ignored the point. While the former is busy drumming up the TRS-Congress secret pact, the latter is harping on the ideology-is-different-from-business stand.

When the pot is still boiling Naidu opted to tour Telangana, Khammam and Nalgonda districts, considered to be safe due to various factors though TRS said that it will stall his padayatra, scheduled for mid November, as TDP did not spell it stand categorically on Telangana. (INN)

Congress in a fix on Polavaram

2011/10/24 5:33:33 From political, ideological, cultural and territorial moorings, Telangana agitation seems to have treading a new path with the outbreak of Polavaram tenders' controversy and TRS writing to Chief Minister K Kiran Kumar Reddy to cancel the tenders as the matter is in Supreme Court and the Party opposes the project tooth and nail.

After the slanging match between TDP and TRS over the Poalavaram tenders and an aggrieved party moving High Court alleging irregularities in the allotment, TRS Chief K Chandrasekhar Rao writes to the Chief Minister to cancel the tenders and reiterates his party stand that the project is against the interests of the people of Telangana.

The crux of the issue was not the stand of TRS on the beleaguered Polavaram project, but the objection was directed towards the promoter of a pro-Telangana newspaper and his business associates who bagged the contract; though TRS stand is against the project. Commercial interests and political ideology tend to differ many times but the twosome learned to co-exist over a period of time.

The issue coming at a time when Telangana strike was at a high pitch and soon after some leaders’ Delhi visit raises many doubts and inferences are drawn by individuals, institutions and political parties to suit their respective line of thinking.

Telangana and Polavaram cannot go together is something that can be read beyond reasonable doubt, was the reading till recently. Chandrasekhar Rao reiterated that he has been opposing the project as it was violating all applicable laws and submerges extensive tribal tracts in Andhra Pradesh, Orissa and Chattisgarh displacing over 73,000 people.

Rao tried to rewind the sequence of events and meetings held involving Congress leaders in Delhi and the legal tangle since 2005 in a three-page letter to Chief Minister and stressed on the Wait till SC verdict point. At the same time, breathing intensity into the controversy, Uttarandhra Rakshana Vedika (URV) has demanded the government to complete the Polavaram project along with Uttarandhra Sujala Sravanthi at any cost.

Chandrasekhar Rao’s letter has certainly put the Congress on the defensive. At a time when TDP and BJP were accusing a tie-up between the TRS and Congress, the letter has certainly put the ruling party in the defensive. On one hand Telangana Ministers, MLAs and MPs are at loggerheads with the government and the decision of opening tenders and allotting Polavaram works has put the Kiran Kumar Reddy government in a piquant situation.

What the courts say may bring some relief to the government but the entire situation has been very unpleasant for the ruling party. Faced by dissent from within and from all over, the party is trying its best to conduct itself in a non-controversial mode but the tenders issue has stirred a hornet’s nest. Polavaram has been a contentious issue from the beginning as the ripples will be felt in three states and displacement of tribal families is involved.
The project aims to create a new ayacut of 7.2 lakh acres and stabilize of 25 lakh acre of the ayacut in the Krishna and Godavari delta; in its course it would submerge 206 villages in Khammam district besides 23 in Orissa and Chhattisgarh and displaces 1.94 lakh people. (INN)

    Etela condemns allegations on KCR

2011/10/25 10:39:20 Telangana Rashtra Samithi floor leader Etela Rajender on Tuesday accused the Telugu Desam Party of levelling baseless charges against TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao in connection with awarding of Polavaram irrigation project contract.

Talking to media persons at TRS Bhavan, Etela Rajender alleged that the TDP has been making such charges against KCR to water down the statehood agitation and divert the attention of the people. Stating that there was no truth in TDP's allegations, he said that the TRS had no link whatsoever, with the Polavaram tenders.

Instead, he said that Chandrababu Naidu has converted TDP into a party of contractors by accommodating Nama Nageswara Rao, Sujana Choudhary, C M Ramesh and N Surya Prakash. Instead of leveling allegations, he advised Naidu to make his party's stand clear on the Polavaram project. If TDP has any commitment towards Telangana, he challenged Naidu to ask for cancellation of Polavaram tenders.

Etela said that the TRS would write a letter to the State Government seeking Vigilance Commission's probe into entire issue on the awarding of contracts. He said that the TRS was considering filing defamation case against those tyring to malign the image of KCR by unnecessarily dragging his name into the controversy.

The TRS leader also challenged Naidu for a public debate at Jubilee Hall on the properties owned by him and KCR before and after joining of politics.

Etela informed that the TRS MLAs would start their indefinite fast seeking statehood for Telangana region from November 1, the State Formation Day, at Indira Park along with Bharatiya Janata Party, Communist party of India and Telangana Nagara samiti members. (INN)

Cancel Polavaram tenders, KCR to CM

2011/10/23 11:20:39 Claiming that he was against the Polavaram project since its inception, Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrasekhar Rao on Sunday wrote a letter to Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy asking him to cancel the tenders of Polavaram multi-purpose irrigation project.

In the wake of controversy surrounding the allotment of project tenders to SEW Infrastructure, the TRS chief KCR wrote a letter to the Chief Minister asking him to cancel the tenders. He appealed to the State Government to follow the directions of Centre and the Supreme Court in this regard.

In his letter, KCR stated that the government should not take up the construction of project until the Supreme Court gives permission. He said that the Orisssa and Chattisgarh Governments too are against the project. The project is yet to get clearances from the Forests and Environments departments.

The TRS president stated that the project would submerge 299 villages including 206 villages in Khammam district alone apart from displacing nearly two lakh people. He said the government should begin the work only after getting all the clearances and giving adequate compensation and making alternate arrangements for the displaced people.

TRS former MP B Vinod Kumar also wrote a letter to the Chief Minister making similar demands. He also asked the Telugu Desam Party to make its stand clear on Polavaram project. (INN)

    Naidu flays Government

2011/10/12 6:50:34 Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday stated that his party was committed to completion of the Polavaram irrigation project.

Addressing the Polavaram displaced persons at Tadepalligudem, Naidu alleged that the Congress Government was not properly responding to the problems of the families of displaced due to Polavaram project and failed to initiate proper rehabilitation measures.

Naidu, who is touring the West Godavari district for three days, also made an aerial survey of the Polavaram project site to collect the first hand information. He said that the TDP will relentlessly fight for the cause of the displaced population of the Polavaram project.

Earlier, the displaced victims complained to the TDP president that the State Government had provided them barren land and that they were not given proper compensation for the palm trees that were lost due to construction of the project. (INN)

TDP,TRS and Congress indulge in blame game

2011/10/23 6:27:00 The Telugu Desam Party has challenged Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar and Telangana Rashtra Samithi for an open debate on allotment of tenders for the Polavaram project.

Addressing a press conference at NTR Trust Bhavan here on Sunday, Telangana Telugu Desam Forum convenor Errabelli Dayakar Rao said that his party was ready to prove all the allegations that they levelled about the irregularities in the tender process of Polavaram project. However, he asked the Chief Minister and TRS president K Chandrasekhar to decide the time and venue to debate the same.

Reiterating that the TRS president has personally benefited out of Polavaram project by ensuring allotment of tenders to a benami company, Errabelli alleged that KCR has toned down the Telangana agitation after receiving the benefits. He asked the people to understand the nexus between Kiran Kumar Reddy and KCR and their link with the Polavaram project. He said that the TDP was ready to submit all the evidences to the Speaker if the Chief Minister also does the same.

Errabelli also criticised the statement of Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad seeking more time for consultation. Stating that the Congress party has been holding consultations for the last 11 years, he asked as to how much more time was need to resolve the issue. He requested the Telangana leaders to come on a common platform to achieve the statehood for the Telangana region.

Meanwhile, addressing the same press conference TDP MLA M Narasimhulu alleged that KCR has accumulated wealth of nearly Rs 50,000 Crore by using Telangana agitation as a shield. He asked the TRS president to declare his assets while disclosing his sources of income.

Narasimhulu said that KCR has amassed huge wealth through 'benamis' and have betrayed the Telangana agitation as it was done by Marri Chenna Reddy in 1969. He said KCR's wealth was much more than the accumulated wealth of both Kadapa MP Jagan Mohan Reddy and Obulapuram Mining Corporation chairman Gali Janardhan Reddy. He also questioned KCR's silence over the allegations related to allotment of tenders for the Polavaram project. (INN)

2011/10/28 10:13:31 Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrasekhar Rao on Friday slammed Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu for leveling baseless charges against him on awarding of Polavaram irrigation project to his benamis.

Talking to media persons at Telangana Bhavan, Chandrasekhar Rao sought unconditional apology for dragging his name into the controversy and warned that he would file a defamation suit against Naidu if he did not stop malicious campaign against him. He challenged Naidu for a public debate 'anywhere and anytime' over the awarding of Polavaram contracts and investments in Namasthetelangana vernacular daily.

Stating that he was clean, KCR alleged that Naidu himself was involved in several scams. “Many books came in the market about the Naidu's involvement in various scams,” he stated.

KCR disclosed his assets once again and said that he owns 24 acres land in Medak, a house in Karimnagar and Hyderabad. Stating that Rs 4 crore has been invested for establishing a newspaper, he said that he had invested Rs 55 lakhs for launching of TV channel.

Stating that Naidu has no moral right comment on him, he said he has no right to use photo of anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare. "There is no need for him to live like a Benami," he said while accusing Naidu for encouraging Benami culture in the state through awarding of contracts. “I have not looted properties like Naidu and built benami empire worth Rs 50,000 crore,” he stated.

KCR alleged that the TDP did not contest the Banswada by-elections after having a secret pact with the ruling Congress party. Stating that he wrote letter to the Chief Minister asking him to cancel tenders, he challenged Naidu to make his party's stand clear on the Polavaram project and visit Telangana region. He said that Naidu was making baseless allegations against him and unable to directly face the people of region.

KCR said that there was no compromise on the Telangana state formation and he would continue his agitation relentlessly. (INN)

Probe Polavaram tenders through sitting judge: Errabelli

2011/11/6 8:14:18 The Telangana Telugu Desam Forum on Sunday demanded that the State Government order a probe into the Polavaram tenders through sitting judge.

Addressing a press conference at NTR Trust Bhavan here, Forum convenor Errabelli Dayakar Rao said that it was established beyond doubt that several irregularities have taken place in the Polavaram tenders. Therefore, the State Government should cancel all the tenders and order a comprehensive probe through a sitting judge into the issue. He said a TDP delegation would meet Governor ESL Narasimhan on November 8 seeking his intervention into the issue.

Errabelli alleged that the Telangana Rashtra Samithi leaders have mortgaged the Sakala Janula Samme, the employees' general strike, in order to reap benefits out of Polavaram issue. He said that the general strike was withdrawn after the TRS leaders brokered a deal with the Centre on getting some contracts allotted on their 'benamis'.

The TDP leader also questioned the TRS MLAs meeting with Panchayat Raj Minister K Jana Reddy, who was dubbed as 'Telangana Drohi' (Betrayer) earlier. He also criticised the TRS for not extending support to the week-long fast launched by freedom fighter Konda Laxman Bapuji at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi demanding separate Telangana.

Meanwhile, Errabelli informed that the TDP leaders from Telangana region would meet Bapuji in New Delhi on Monday to request him to withdraw the fast in view of his deteriorating health condition. (INN)

TRS is against Polavaram project: Kavitha

2011/10/21 7:25:21 Telangana Jagruthi president K Kavitha on Friday demanded that the Telugu Desam party president N Chandrababu Naidu and Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy make their stand clear on Polavaram multi-purpose irrigation project.

Responding to the allegations levelled by the TDP against TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao and Telangana Political Joint Action committee chairman Prof M Kodandaram over the project contract given to KCR on benami names, Kavitha described the allegations as `baseless’ and `far from truth.’ “The TDP leaders are making meaningless allegations over the award of Polavaram contract to benami of TRS” she stated.

She also reminded that the Chief Minister will have to face the wrath of the Supreme Court as the case was pending in the apex court due to a petition filed by Orissa government.

Talking to media persons at Telangana Bhavan, Etela questioned the State Government as to how it initiated the process of tenders on multi-purpose Polavaram irrigation project on river Godavari in West Godavari district without taking approval from departments concerned. He demanded that the tenders be cancelled in the wake of allegations pouring in from various parties. How Hansika controls anger

    2008/5/14 7:59:17

We all get angry at one time or the other. Some get angry a number of times every day. While some shout and throw things around to give vent to their anger, some just keep it within themselves and this only leads to frustration and ill health.

Hansika has a novel habit of addressing this issue in a calm and quite manner. Whenever she is angry, she locks herself up in a room and starts drawing pictures. She may not be a great artist or painter but she manages to keep her anger in check in this way. This also ensures that she does not hurt anyone with her anger.

    TDP supports Polavaram project: Naidu

2011/10/29 7:43:32 Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu made it clear that his party was in favour of construction of Polavaram multi-purpose irrigation project.

Addressing the executive meeting of party's farmers’ wing at NTR Trust Bhavan here on Saturday, Naidu said that the TDP wants the Polavaram project to be completed as planned. He said the party was also in favour of Chevella-Pranihita project. However, he demanded that the government must provide a suitable relief and rehabilitation package to all the affected and displaced people.

Asked the Centre to announce these irrigation projects as national projects, the TDP president said that his party would continue struggle till the construction of both the projects.

Naidu accused the State Government of ignoring the welfare of farmers. He claimed that while the TDP was in power it effectively handled the drought situation. There were no powers and the supply to agriculture sector was interrupted, he said.

The TDP chief said that the TDP government also gave good MSPs for the produce of all farmers. The farmers were taken care of by giving special packages, he said while accusing both State and Centre of complete ignoring the farmers' pathetic conditions. He asked as to why the government was averse to implement the recommendations of Swaminathan Commission for the welfare of farmers in the State.

Speaking about the alleged irregularities in the Polavaram issue, Naidu alleged that Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrasekhar Rao was a beneficiary. He claimed that KCR's got benefits by ensuring Polavaram project contracts to his SEW Infra which also invested in the TRS mouthpiece 'Namasthe Telangaana' vernacular daily. He said entire manipulations were done by the Chief Minister's Office and Kiran Kumar Reddy himself was involved in the scam.

Naidu refuted the allegations that he accumulated wealth through illegal means. He asked his critics to prove the allegations with substantial evidence. He also offered to give power of attorney to his critics if they were ready to prove that he owns properties in foreign countries.

The TDP chief also sought support for the 'Rythu Poru', the padyatra aimed at highlighting the farmers' issues, scheduled to be launched on November 2. Stating that the 'Rythu Poru' would be held across the State, except Hyderabad, he asked the TDP workers to make the programme a success. (INN)

Azad’s comments on T reek: TDP

    2011/6/7 12:33:25

Demanding an explanation from the Congress High Command on the Union Health Minister and Congress In-Charge of AP Affairs statement that the contentious separate Telangana issue is complex and a solution would take more time, Telugu Desam Party general secretary P Chandrasekhar on Tuesday stated the comments reeked of foul play and were an attempt to cheat the region’s people.

Mr Chandrasekhar alleged before media persons at the NTR Trust Bhavan that the statement made on Monday, ‘has once again exposed the Congress’s lack of commitment on separate statehood demand. He added that the ruling party was “cheating the people of the region by dragging the issue further.”

The TDP leader sought an explanation from the Congress High Command over Mr Azad’s comments.

Reminding that Mr Azad had stated that the Congress would give ‘top priority’ to the separate Telangana issue when the ruling party entered into an alliance with the Telangana Rashtra Samithi for the 2004 General Elections, Mr Chandrasekhar wondered why the party was still dragging its feet over the issue. “Why has the Congress still intent on dragging the issue further by stating that it is sensitive and needs more time?” he asked.

The TDP leader further questioned the curious silence maintained by Telangana Political Joint Action Committee convenor Kodandaram. “Why is no response coming forth from the TPJAC chief over Mr Azad’s comments?” he asked.

“Instead of minding his own business when the TDP organizes conferences or meetings for Telangana, he raises objections. Now when the time for him to speak has come, he is silent,” Mr Chandrasekhar pointed out.

He advised Prop Kodandaram to make collective and united efforts for achieving Telangana instead of boycotting TDP meetings in the region.

SC adjourns Polavaram case for 2weeks

    2011/9/23 7:17:09

The Supreme Court on Friday adjourned the hearing on Polavaram Irrigation Project case for two weeks.

The apex court while adjourning the petition directed the Orissa government to file any objections before the bench over the execution of project by the Andhra Pradesh Government within four weeks. Earlier, the court asked the government to circulate expert technical committee report among Orissa, Chattishgarah and Andhra Pradesh and directed them to submit their objections and suggestions to the court.

It may be noted that the Orissa government had approached the Supreme Court on September 4 last year, challenging the Centre's decision to give final environmental clearance for the project. It expressed apprehensions that large area of State would be inundated due to the multi-purpose Polavaram project on river Godavari. (INN)

Police foil 'T' activists' Polavaram bus yatra

2011/10/29 10:22:16 Nearly 200 students, lawyers and political activists of Telangana region were arrested by the police near Jirugumilli forest check post at Khammam-West Godavari border on Saturday when they tried to proceed towards the Polavaram project site.

The members of Osmania University JAC, Telangana Advocates JAC and Telangana Praja Front were stopped at Jirugumilli by the police when they tried to continue their bus yatra to reach the Polavaram project site in the West Godavari district. The activists who started the bus yatra from the Osmania University two days ago to protest against the construction of Polavaram irrigation project reached Bhadrachalam on Saturday.

The Advocates JAC of Bhadralachalam gave a warm welcome to the students and later they submitted a symbolic memorandum to Lord Sri Ram Chanadraji at Bhadrachalam temple appealing him to stop the construction of the project as it would submerge 300 villages apart from displacing nine lakh people in the region.

Meanwhile, police have strengthened security in the Khammam district in the wake of threats issued by the Seemandhra Students JAC that they would stop the OU students' bus yatra. Section 144 was clamped in the both Khammam and West Godavari districts since the bus yatra took off from Hyderabad. Additional forces were deployed in both the districts and check-posts were set up at all entry points.

Tension prevailed when the bus yatra reached Jirugumilli forest post. The activists staged a dharna in protest after they were stopped by the police from proceeding further. The activists raised slogans against the construction of Polavaram project.

The police took the activists into the custody and later they were released at the Khammam border. (INN)
